I was wondering about putting an aftermarket pulley setup on my small block. I just run the water pump and alternator. I was hoping that having a geared one would stop any slipping.
I was wondering which sets people were using and what problems they were having or had installing? Also I'm curious on changing the alternator pulley? Maybe slipping is a good thing sometimes so things don't get broke? Anyways thank you for your time and experience..

Are you trying to underdrive? I really don't experience any slipping with V-belts. I've used cvfracing in the past, and I have their crank pulley on my 318 now. CNC machined here in the USA, and they've been spot on and V-belt. Much easier to get a replacement belt in almost any town. Pulleys available on ebay

No I'm not trying to underdrive it.
Was just looking for some one's experience really with aftermarket pulleys...

I have ran the stock V groove style pullies with no issues. I haven't noticed any belt slip.

Then I decided to go with an aluminum V groove pulley setup from CVF Racing, strictly for appearance, nice shiny aluminum. :) They worked good and looked good.

On my other engine, I decided to go with March Performance 6 groove serpentine pulleys just for the look again, I like the look of the thicker serpentine belt. Again, I noticed no belt slipping or mis-alignment. They seemed to do the trick like all the others.

I noticed that CVF now has an 8 rib pulley system, which I think looks neat. Maybe I'll try that out one day. However, I do like the look of that cogged belt system you posted. Another possibility.

I run a March under drive, two groove crank pulley. At the time I was running power steering. I was throwing belts at 6500 rpm. Bought the pulley no more belt throwing. Never really slipped the belt, but rolled and threw a bunch. Not to mention I was running the stock A/C crank pulley which weighed 14 lbs! compared to 3 lbs for the march pulley.

Sorry J par. Hey have only run the serpentine set up from March for over anything stock. It has been very good to me. That set up a I e is a lot cheaper than what I did years ago. Are you sure your experiencing slip? Marks on the pulley? Glazed belts? There really isn’t a lot of stress there. Not saying it can not happen.....

That is one nice set up. I could never get mine to stop slipping and coming off I tried everything. even a deep groove over size pulley on the alt.. I got sick of buying belts. By the time I noticed it was gone It was to late. I could not tell You how many different brands I tried. The total length was 17.5 inches . it would never make it to second gear. I eventually put a alternator shut off relay on it. I believe the alternator was to hard on it.

I too have the march to groove underdrive pulley as well. I used it when I had the electric water pump and all I ran was the alternator. My stock one was too fast and like I said I wouldn't make it past 2nd gear and the thing would fly off! Align my pulleys up with a 3ft metal straight edge. They're spot-on and my belts are tight and new. Anyways I thought that hundred $70 setup looked kind of slick and light and direct. Once everything gets to be just so you start looking for stuff to spend your money on LOL...
There was no reviews on it I was just wondering if anybody had ever tried it....

Well, then mine is with CRFracing. Been nothing but a positive experience.

V belt pulleys can wear and cause slippage. Does not happen often but I have seen it. Also a freshly painted pulley will slip until it wears in.
Really no reason to deviate from factory unless your just going for a different look.

It’s funny, at the same time I was fighting my belt throwing issue I walked over to another racer running a hemi shifting at 7500-8000 rpm. His belt was so loose you could almost slip it off by hand. At the shift rpm it must have been flopping around like crazy! Either that or was SLIPPING like crazy, but never made a sound or burned up!
