Factory tach wiring

-
Here's a pic, 67 Cuda, factory wiring in both sides of the bulkhead. Didn't get a pic under the dash, it was cold and dark out there, but this is under the hood. It's the best shot I could get.

It's the grey wire, and looks to be in the "J" spot of the middle bulkhead plug, just as I posted before. Hope this helps!

Thanks Geof. Is it possible Darts are different as they use a console tach, and B'Cudas have the tach in the dash cluster?

I would say that's totally possible. Is the console tach a factory installed piece, or an aftermarket or dealer installed item?

I also wonder if 68-9 are different for some reason. Seems that 67's always have some different applications than their later counterparts. I believe the first year vehicles are more rushed into market, and certainly in the case of 67's, they use more than a few carryover parts from earlier cars, that are then replaced with better engineering as time allows thru the year. Great case in point is the idler arm situation for 67's. Just my onservation, as I have 2 67's!!

There was a thread in the past about the differences in 67 and 68 B'cuda bulkhead connections, wire positions. 68 got hood mounted signals so wires were moved about for that and reverse lamp wires too. I don't doubt that they could have had a wire harness for a 4 speed or formula S car and that harness had the tach wire in it. Who has seen it all? Not me.

The console mounted tach was a factory option for '67 thru '69 Darts. They used the same bezel/housing as the console clocks (Charger) or the console vacuum gauge (Coronet, GTX). Apparently there were very few that came with that option as the riser base/pedestal, to make the housing clear the console top sides for rotational purposes, is hard to find.( I know someone with a 3d printer, so I may have one made.) Up there^^^, I posted a pic of what is supposed to be '67-'69 A-Body console tach harness, which has an approx. 1" grommet on it, presumably to go thru the firewall at a certain location.

Still hoping someone with a Dart can provide a pic of the position of this hole.

Thanks guys for the help so far!

Thanks for the input (nice car!). I can see that Darts and cuds's are different. Would still appreciate a picture of a '67- '69 cuda firewall exit location for the grey tach pickup wire.

I just checked my 1968 formula s cuda and it has a factory tach. The wire runs in the same hole and grommet that the speedo cable is . I am sure this is wrong . Here is a pic of a formula s cuda with grey tach wire through a hole next to the dimple mine used

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Should be noted that this car has an incorrect ballast resister. As the grey pickup wire exists the firewall it makes a right hand turn not a left turn, following the loom and out to the coil. I suspect he has electronic ignition and goes to the ballast resister for pickup. I assume that the firewall hole is correct and I will use it.

(Really) Late update..."cosgig" is correct (thanks Geof!)...'67 goes into the "J" port of the bulkhead connector...'67's are always different than later A's.
