I like what 318 is trying to do, can it be done, sure, with the right setup certainly.
I will not throw stones or add my opinion on his quest.
He does what he does with what he has on his terms.
Very good post. If a guy has patience, good deals can be found on parts.
I have 3 340 blocks and 2 of those were free from a friend who no longer has an interest in cars. The other, a complete 72 short block I got from a chevy guy for $200.
My son bought a complete 360 Mag last summer that had Mag R/T heads on it. That was the basis for the Mag build I posted a while back. The guy he got that from had bought a 65 mustang and was selling off his Mopar stuff. My son got some parts at yardsale prices and sold some of it making money on the deal. It was better than free.
When 318WR started his posts, that is the kind of stuff I thought he had in mind.... and what I was looking forward to.
It's exactly what I have in mind and why this won't be flyin' in May. It will take patience, the right deals (like speedmaster heads 40% off), and a lot of "garage sale items" from marketplace, CL, ebay, and here right on FABO". That is why we are going to throw some spare parts I have laying around on a small block just to play in the meantime. Those parts on the small block will have nothing to do with this "build".

Heck with spray paint and bondo. Those things cost too much. His next purchase needs to be a set of sawsall blades and a ratchet set.
Just because it's a long bed now, don't mean it has to stay that way.

Any thread that's not mine that's funny...I honestly have no control over it. Jpar does this on any thread that's not his. He has literally been responsible for shutting down multiple threads single handily. But do it in his and you'll be scorned. I made a thread of our pickups racing where he and I can throw mud, but he won't reply. Unless he post something relevant to topic on hand, I'll just stay out of the mud with him

Believe it or not I help people on a regular basis.. and I would help you and send you any parts you need that I have to spare no charge.. I would like to see a thread with a realistic goal for once that's all..

And metaphorically speaking when I'm with a friend and they have like a booger hanging out of their nose or something I'm very quick to point that out so they don't get embarrassed.. with that said in my mind I'm like tens on 5K dude just keep that under your hat until it's done because ain't nobody going to believe that.. they're going to think you're nuts...

and the reason I'm not indulging you in the truck conversation is because I did not build that truck to take to the drag strip. I mean who in their right mind would take a granny 4-speed old Dodge to the drag strip and beat on it?? I mean there's really no sense in it..

- But you saying that I start threads for bantering, and I don't complete any projects, and I've never been faster than 13.3's, and yadda yadda yadda is what derails threads, way off topic.
- I never intended you to race your truck, thus the reason it's in the joke section. It is a place where we can banter....

This will be a process over time - a maturing process. It's not going to be slap and slam a big block in it and it instantly runs 11 flat. Getting it to hook up, and the entire thing sorted out will take time. Money cap will add days to the calendar as well

I'm guessing this truck will weigh 3850 as it sits with no spare tire. I don't think it's overly heavy to start with - like over 4k pounds. If so, it's good news for us. We'll get a weight soon. Be nice to get it down to light B-body weight.
318 your a good guy and 1 to get posts going, but you are living in a dream world with that truck, I know you said 10's maybe?.....but with no money you ain't got a chance NA, fun trying of course BUT.
Give you an idea our '69 RR were going to run this year has a big 589ci mild street wedge motor in it@3850lbs and were talking about hopefully running 10.5 and thats 700hp and 720ftlbs with caltracs/mono's race 727 and adj shocks, your talking .5 sec off that with a truck!!!
...sorry and all that, I don't wanna spoil your dreams, get the weight down to say 3300 and you got some hope with a whatever 500hp motor if you can hook it.

I've been pretty clear and consistent that the truck put a big bump in the road in hitting 10's, but we're still going forward with the plan. Thanks! The fun is already happening! As I've said, we'll take what ever it gives us. High 11's could be a fun "Seed Truck" on the street
