ALERT!! SOUND THE ALARM!!..

I'm at a loss to where to take these heads right now I'm going to probably just do some research and drive around and talk to people. And when I get a comfortable feeling I'll let them have them..

If you want me to look at them I will. We can hook up and take them to Tom’s and see what we see.

First and foremost I'm buying this time!
I can take them apart and look at them just like 318 will run did. I want somebody to do a nice three angle or more valve job and have a spring pressure tester and check tolerances with a machinist level and things like that, all stuff where the right equipment needed. I mean I ground valves in high school for crying out loud I know how to do it I just would like somebody does the stuff on a daily basis knock em out...
Appreciate the offer...

That’s what I’m talking about. I’m going by Tom’s either a bit later today or tomorrow for sure and I’ll see if he has any time for us to swing by there and check them out. I’m not sure I’d do a 3 angle cut either. It depends on the shape of the bowl etc. It may want the 4 angle cutter I used on stuff like that. I just have to see it to know.

Plus, it depends on how far they blew the bowls out when they cast the heads...sometimes you can only get what you can get.

Sir, perhaps if your going out with Jpar, you could convince him to take the duster. Jpar can have 2 hands firmly on the wheel and you could "Press the red button" for him !!! We all would thank you. Perhap even a video??:steering::steering::thumbsup:

So I'm considering what gaskets I'm going to use when I do put the Speedmaster heads on..
Being .010 above Deck with flat top pistons with valve reliefs I'm definitely going to have to be in the .045 minimum..
Right now I use the fel pro 1008's at .039 with 596 heads that I just guesstimate at 70 cc's.
From the calculations if I use the .045 I'll probably gain a half point of compression.. witch is not going to help me try and get back to pump gas only witch is one of the two things I was hoping to gain the other being weight loss..
So I'm thinking a .060 gasket... This should keep compression close to the same, a little safer clearances, and hopefully the heat conducting characteristics of the aluminum convey the ability to run pump gas instead of having to add I little Sunoco to get it to turn off..
Current set up calculations...

I think I'd just use the over-the-counter Fel pro 8553 .050 head gasket. I don't think .010 would be the difference in make or break it.

I've used the 8553 on plenty of budget builds.. I'm thinking more of a cometic gasket this time.. high compression, high RPM, nitrous...

Ahhh, yeah. I forgot you're sprayin' it.

I agree with the Cometics but you’d better not be in a hurry for them because I ordered mine 3 weeks ago and they just shipped yesterday and I was lucky it didn’t take longer.

yes I heard that from somebody else and that's why I'm thinking of ordering them now and don't even have the heads looked at yet..

It looks like Summit may have 40s and 75 in stock..

I got my shipping notice yesterday that mine will be here today. They told me 19 days when I ordered them. Not sure how long it took but they were close.

Well crap!!. Cometic said 4 weeks out..:BangHead:...
Summit has .075's but I don't know that those will not give fitment issues...

I ordered a set of C5917-060 on April 3 through Summit. Their estimated delivery date was 5/22/2020 at that time, and so far that has not changed. I think this part number made it take longer because they are not so popular. It's my first time ordering Cometic gaskets and I chose these based on their description that they were for Edelbrock and Engine Quest small block heads. These are 4.08" gasket bore for my 4.04" cylinder bore size. Waiting patiently.

Yes I called Summit this morning and they weren't sure. Prefer to order through them as their customer service is second to none. I may just go with the 75 if I can get away with it would help my compression get lowered a little and get closer to hopefully pump gas only..
My biggest problem is wondering if the intake manifold is going to fit...

Just my opinion, but I would want to KNOW the CCs of both sets of heads before ordering the gaskets.

Well they arrived from Cometic so I checked my paper work from the day I ordered them from 4secondsflat and counting weekend days it was 22 days total. 4.060 bore.045 thick.

Did they drop ship to you, or did you have to wait for them to go out west and back again? I'm waiting to see if the machine shop can hit the deck height I want, or if I need to go zero, before I order gaskets.

When I ordered them they were going to go from Ohio across country to 4secondsflat then back to me in Pennsylvania. I posted a “you won’t believe this post” on Facebook and a friend of mine tagged a friend that worked at Cometic Gaskets and told me that issue was addressed. And it was as they came right from Ohio. That would have not only been stupid but expensive too.

I'm going to order the .075's..
I could use the drop in compression...
Avoid clearance issues, better chance of getting a way with pump gas, and they are in stock... One in Nevada One in Texas...
Now the question is will my intake manifold fit...:BangHead:......
