Hey guys,
I’m trying to figure out what alternator to switch to from my Powermaster 95 amp one wire square back V-belt alternator, because I’ve finally had enough of it.
I’d like to get an alternator that has at least the amperage I (should) have now and be able to be replaced at most auto parts stores.
I am not opposed to swapping my crank pulley to a rib style pulley because the only thing the engine drives is the alternator. I have an electric water pump, no a/c, and manual steering.
What alternators and brackets do y’all have or know of that will work on a big block in a 70 Duster?

Thanks!

If anyone wants my current alternator, that’s too bad. Because I’m going to cut it in half, melt down one half of it and cast it into bullets for my 500s&w, then shoot the other half with those bullets, then take the hole filled remains, and throw them off the nearest cliff.

Well I guess someone has to acknowledge your semi psychotic post...
What's going wrong with your alternator? Is it not giving you the amps you want? Is it not lasting as long as you want?
What problem are you expecting to fix with a parts store reman alternator?...

FYI I just bought a powermaster 95 amp Square back standard alternator and then haven't had any issues so far as a matter of fact is keeping everything well charged...
LOL I just bought an yellow top as well to acompany it..

well, a 2014 Dodge Caravan is a whopping 150A and its not big like an '86 360 trucks alternator...Mounting is gonna be a challenge but at least one hole is correct. Ribbed belt which is nice as they dont need huge amounts of tension.

I’ve made multiple threads about my problems with this alternator. This thread is just for finding other options. If I get one from a parts store, I can easily replace it.
Thanks

Can you pass me a link to those other threads talking about the problems? That way I can have a better understanding of what the problem is and maybe help resolved it. I too have had electric water pump electric fan electric fuel pump MSD ignition and so forth working solely on my 60 amp AutoZone alternator with my relatively good orileys battery. I've changed all that since but for other reasons...

I ordered my 95 amp power master alternator from Summit and I've never had a problem returning a product from them. And it's always next day shipping...
and as a matter of fact anytime I have had a problem with one of their products there's usually an email saying there's one on the way before I even hang up the phone..

Starting to think my car hates me.

Another alternator problem

Battery draining overnight

Don’t the newer mopar alternators have to be controlled by the ecu or something?

Sounds like my stepdad his old auction plymouth broke down on him when he was in the mountains hunting he emptied his rifle in it and hitched back to town

Okay I read all three of those threads...
This battery has been drained many times has it been changed?...
Not sure how an injured battery can keep an alternator from putting out power, I’ve put a multi meter to the output stud while the engine is running at various RPM, but just for science purposes, I tried the yellow top optima out of my truck that I know is good. Nothing changed. The battery in the car is a regular red top optima, and has always been recharged with an optima charger. The alternator was working fine a few days ago, then suddenly stopped charging one morning.

Like I tell my customers everything works great till it doesn't.... Guess it's just time to buy a new alternator and be done with it...

I RUN A GM 130 AMP ONE WIRE ALTERNATOR MOUNTED WHERE THE ORIG. FUEL PUMP WOULD BE , 440/505 wedge , in a 68 fast back , w/ a motor plate , U CAN DOOO IT !

Mine looks like this (Not my motor) but this has the bracket kit on it. The factory bracket fits the same you just need to make these spacers yourself.

Electric fuel pump, electric water pump, dual electric fans, EFI, soon to have a nice stereo system. I don’t know about you but I wouldn’t want to run all of this off of the factory 60 amp alternator.
You need a HD extension cord!

A battery with a shorted cell acts like a huge gigantic load. It is HARD on alternators. You can actually ruin an alternator by jumping a dead battery say, in the winter and then depending on the alternator to recharge. I can burn up a good alternator.

Yes, I heard the Diodes go if you jump a dead battery. Sometimes just 1 so it only puts out around 12 vdc but that's just what a buddy told me.

Ended up going with a TuffStuff Chevy style 1 wire alternator. It bolted directly up to my square back alternator bracket and has been working flawlessly for a couple of months now. Voltage never drops below 13 at idle
