I got my car home from Florida. Drove it from Lakeland Florida to del rio Tennessee. Roughly 700 miles. Car did great. Only threw one belt. So now I got the block and crank that cam with the car in th garage and I have a few questions
So do they need to be in an certain order. My plan was to just set the crank and rods in the block loosely and cover it with grease till next summer when I get the rest of it togetherThe blue marks most likely indicate the crank is .010 on the rods and mains.
The rods look different because they have been balanced. That is perfectly normal for OE rods to look like that after balancing.
Why are these different.
That makes since.Somebody was in the process of balancing all the rods to the same weight. Need to go through the rod balancing process to get all 8 right.
Correctly done, you balance each end of the rods.
I had planned on taking it to a shop. But not till next summer. But I don’t want it to rust up
That appears to be a cast crankI noticed on the crank that it has 2 blew marks. Not sure what this would mean.

That is a steel crank ALL day, check the wide parting line, and the drilled front and probably rear rod journal, it looks to be an early factory 340 crank. That appears to be a cast crank
What are your future plans for horsepower output?
All cranks are steel - cast steel or forged steelSteel crank for sure. Looks just like the 68 i´m doing now.

Those rods will be fine...just a little rough looking. How often will you be looking at the anyway?I went with the 10w40 and assembly lube. I don’t have a lot of room for storage so I put it together loosely and bagged the whole thing. I thought about the scar rods cause those that came with the car look a little rough to me but I’m no expert.
