I bought a 73 Duster rear bumper that had this hitch attached. Would this have been a dealer installed option? It bolts to the bumper and the spare tire well.

It is a factory option have it on mine and it looks the same should have a part number on it. Sorry thought I had a better pic.

I have one here that once was identical. Took it off a 71 Dart, used a torch to heat and reshape to my bumper bolt locations. Bolted it onto our first 67 notch to pull my brothers boat.
Another here from a 75 Valiant has a tag bracket incorporated. Never quite understood why it had the tag bracket unless the hitch would bend the bottom of the tag.

Just resurrecting an old thread here with new information. I finally sandblasted the old hitch I got with plans of painting it and installing it this winter. As stated above it is made by Draw-tite. It is stamped 1967-72-73 Valiant, Demon, Duster. The pictures aren't great but it's the best my phone could come up with.

Cool stuff bud. I have removed a couple of those off cars now. Unfortunately I didn’t think they were cool enough to keep! Maybe that was my mistake.

That's very cool! I was fortunate enough to be able to jump on a receiver hitch for an early A on here a while back. I plan on installing it in Vixen.

Would a dealer installed option have a Mopar part #? Either way still very cool?

No mopar part number on this one. Going to get a new Draw-tite ball for it cause the one that was on it had the shank torched off it before I got it.

No I don’t think it would unless it was a Mopar special ordered part. Vendor installed equipment install by dealerships has been around since Fred ordered the Bimini top for the Flintstone mobile.

2000# limit?

You trust those 7/16 head bolts and the spare tire well sheet metal for 2000?

No, Ill do something other than just the trunk floor. Not sure till I get under there. Some type of cross brace. May never tow anything with it anyway! I'll share pictures of whatever I do.

You have to understand, these hitches were never meant to haul very much. Maybe 200 lbs ball weight and a total trailer weight of 2000.

That's what it says right on the hitch.

Those bumper bolts are probably OK for 200 (Although I'd be leery on a bumpy road) but the shear force and sheet metal for 2000?

They use to be common place in the 70’s and as you would expect many times on many different cars they were way over loaded. I never seen one fail.

I totally agree! It's more going on there as a conversation piece than anything else. I will make it as functional as possible though. Even where it bolts through the bumper, the metal is not very strong there either.

Wouldn't take much to get some 2x3 stock and weld that on so it can be mounted to the rear frame rails

I have a similar Draw-Tite hitch on my 67 Barracuda. Got it off a junkyard 68 Barracuda, back when you could still find second generation Barracudas in the junk yard. Until I finally got around to getting a pickup truck, I used it pretty often. The motorcycles are long gone, but I still have the Barracuda and it still has the hitch (I wish I was still this skinny.)

OK, has nothing to do with the subject of the post, but here's how the $50 estate-sale 750 turned out.
