Has Anyone Tried This Shifter? Seems Fishy

-
Thats a Lokar or Lokar knock off, I have one in my 52 PU (56 Desoto Hemi and 727). its ok but a bit of a mystery shifter in that it is not real positive as to what position its in other than park and low. It works but I definitely would not try and use it in anything I was going to shift under power, no reverse lock out so its possible (probable to go from Drive to neutral to reverse) pretty easily.

Lokar or Lokar type stuff as mentioned. I've installed several through the years. I hate them. Chinsey as all hell. Look at the linkage rod. It's like 1/4 diameter. Such bullshit. Same with all the bracketry. Just a bunch of bullshittery. Stay away from it.

I used a Lokar with a long handle to simulate the original stick that the truck was born with. If I could have used something else I would have, I would never put one into a car as there are much better shifters out there.

The part number checks out as one from American Shifter. I have not looked at any of their reviews lately, but when I looked at them in the past, they were mixed to say the least.

Always look for the MPN (Manufacturers Part Number) in the specs area on EBay. You can usually query it and get a little more info and find other sellers. This one is ASCS1C2B06N2 which is an American Shifter Product as DrEamer said above.

Depends on what your plans are and budget. If for a street car/just for fun car you can get a Mr.Gasket automatic shifter for about $100 at Summit(MRG 7668) or Jegs.Yep they still make 'um.I have installed 2 in cars. Very basic but work.Looks like a 4 speed.
Best photo I got.

I put one in 46 Chevy pick up. It looked good. That's about it.

Just a bunch of Bullshittery!
That says it all.

Slap Stick. The best shifter on the planet. Even my GM fan friends liked it. I don't think anyone has copied the design.

Like I said the Mr. Gasket is low budget but the price of auto shifters are crazy high.I thought a B&M pro ratchet was expensive when it was $199. Now they are $400
In my first race car, very low budget and many moons ago I got a used slap stick for free and used that for along time. After I bought a 72 challenger and some how broke the T handle on the slap stick. Used the ball handle from the race car to fix it.Oh the days of parts exchange, use what ya got.

had a truck shifter in my 340/727 '65. thing was a widowmaker for the trans...throw it in R from D, NO PROBLEM! what gear are you in, dont know!, just pull it back until it stops in first and push it forward 2 detents.. if you can feel them. Terrible...may as well have been a extension of the sector lever.

Tee handle slap sticks braking is pretty common as people would bang on them hard. I always preferred the ball version from 70. There has to be some other shifters available, look at factory type shifters and see what is out there.

Shifter is garbage, and $300 more than i would pay. Buy a winters from summit or jegs. $200, solid as a brick, last 30 years.
Basically, same as turbo action, half price.

How do they work. Good I imagine but how do they work? Do they have a gate, are they a ratchet or what?

I had a old B&M ratchet shifter in my Super Bee. It was a positive shift but no lock out for reverse. And king of a pain to ratchet the lever 4 times to get into park.

I think winters have been around longer than the turbo action, at least 40 years. They are a gated shifter, just like the t/a, with a rear entry cable to the trans (keeps it away from header heat.)
Now, let me comment for the record. I had a turbo action in my plymouth and i liked it, it was as solid as a rock, but.... with a reverse body i occasionaly pulled on the lever instead of just tapping it back for second, and got a 1-3 shift. I replaced it with a b&m ratchet, ($200 then, almost $350 now!) and coverted the t/a to a glide shifter and put it in my other racecar. It worked great in a powerglide application. The ratchet can be annoying, but the "1-3 oops "is completely gone.
Edit: the 727/904 winters is $220. Compared to the others out there at $350-550, i'd buy one in a heartbeat if i needed one.

I was always impressed with the slap stick. It was solid linkage (no cable) and click, click, and click into neutral. one gear at a time. It always worked right.

I had a 71 R/T Charger with a factory slap stick. Everybody liked that thing.
