Trying to take advantage of an available discount that's going way soon. I have to be able to find a rebuild kit on napaonline, but I don't know what vehicle to look at. All of the ones I've tried say they kit is for a 46RE. Are the kits the same? if not, what vehicles came with a 46RH specifically?

This may not help but 47RH were used in diesels up to 2002 . 2 pin connector is for non-lockup and 3pin oval plug is lockup . My memory is fading but 46RH were used in the 80's on v-6 Dakotas and Rams . I'm thinking this should be in the "How to" section .

I saw somewhere a 95 ram 3500 was supposed to have them. When I looked it up, the kit said it was for a 46RE. Are they the same kit?

I can't answer that I'm thinkin' the 46RE was for gas engines . there are lots of upgrades to both 46RE/46RH & the 47RH/47RE,48RE . The 47/48 series are real heavy duty and have an 8 pin connector and need a controller to operate as do all RE series .

Alright, I thought the RE came later but was essentially the same. Mine is definitely 46RH (3 pin connector) out of a ram van with a 5.9 gas (I pulled it). Can't remember what year though.

A727 based 46RH on V8 pickups and vans.
A904 based 42RH on V6 Pickups and vans.
Check the pan. A 46RH pan is same as A727
See pic below of the A904 42RH pan shape.

The "E" is for electronic controlled trannys used on 1996 & up OBD2 systems , "H" is for hydraulic controlled trannys used on 1995 & down OBD1 systems. Hope that helps.

^^This, 46rh came in stuff like ram trucks and vans, and maybe some Dakotas, both 2 and 4wd. The only electrical controls on an RH is the 3 pin overdrive control and the reverse/ neutral safety connector. They shift otherwise like older 727's, and except for the OD are very similar

There has been some "discussion" on just when they were broken off into RE I used to think the TBI injected engines were the end of RH, but not sure.

I know for a fact it's an RH (three pin connector, not the 8 pin) , but I can't remember what the case looks like on the pass side. I'll check when I get home.

Good point. I have a 42?44?rh based on a 904. The "guts" are basically the same. Just remember a 904 is almost exactly square with a corner off, and a 727 has the "bulge" on the pass side.

I own a 95 Dakota V8, OBD1. It has the 46RH/518 trans. I also owned a 96 Dakota V8 with OBD2 it had the 46RE trans. The trans. on the 96 Dakota, same outward look, body wise, as a 95, but 96 is when Chrysler started with OBD2, hence the trans. was computer controlled.

Ok, got home and double checked. It's a 46RH for sure. Now I just need to decide what rebuild kit to use and what vehicle to use as a reference for the parts guy who's going to ask what the year/make/model it is from. :)

Is it a lock up? If so it’s 93-95. There should be numbers on the pan rail. Kim
Where exactly?

nevermind, I got off my arse and googled it. Doh! the numbers are.

So doing a little digging, it appears the non-lockup units only have two pins in the control connector, where the lockup units have three pins. Mine has three, so I'm going with it's a lockup

This date code , 1394, does that mean the 139th day of 1994?

If I remember correctly, (and I don't some times) Mopar lock-up transmissions have a smooth surface on the very end of the input shaft, maybe 1 to 2 inches long, before the splines start.
