how do you feel about electric performance cars?

-
Yawn.....

When the sound, feel, smell, and personality of the gas motor goes away, so will automotive enthusiasts. E-hotrodding will be boring because there's no challenge. You think people will be rewinding motors in their garage? It's gonna be a catalog race. Biggest motor, hottest battery, lightest car, win. TLDR? $,$,$ wins. No skill, no talent, no thought. And without challenge....yawn.

And people have not thought this through. (TeslaDeaths.com: Digital record of Tesla crashes resulting in death ) Look at what people are doing when they're dying in these cars. Car's on fire and the door won't open. If the engineering is THAT poor, imagine the rest of it.

Gotta ask: What's that e-truck going to do when he runs low on charge in the desert? Plug in? Or in the forest? No solar panel there.

The people advocating these are same ones advocating self-driving cars, and they haven't put an ounce of thought into any of it other than 'what is it possible to do?'. Never 'should I do this?'. Jurassic park all over again.

When cars are mostly-autonomous, people will not be practiced in how to drive, especially in the extenuating circumstances that will require it. Imagine that, your auto-drive shuts off and you haven't actually taken the wheel in fifteen years. How's that gonna go? And they clearly have not been to a demolition derby. Ask anyone watching a demolition derby about turning autonomous cars loose on the street, and how you'd stop them if they went nuts....

And e-cars are NO different. What do you think they'll do with electric rates when EVERYTHING is electric? How do you think those lovely people under the PG&E in Commiefornia feel about an electric car right about now? Talk about putting all your eggs in one basket....
You can store five gallons of gas in your shed for a rainy day. What about your battery? And exactly how much lithium is available for all these cars, trucks, motorcycles, cell phones, vibrators, laptops, and flashlights? Shoot, you can't even buy U.S.-made lead anymore, let alone U.S-made Lithium. How do you think our national security will hinge on that little fact?

None of the half-wits making this stuff are being held accountable to answer these questions. It's 'get it to market' and $$$ and screw the rest.

This will not end well, and the sad part is, I'm not a Luddite!
Like it's such a challenge now. When you can't figure something out, you have an entire network of people to help you with your problem. You can buy a swap kit to basically put any motor into your a body. Also the formula is the same with gas cars, Gee I wonder which makes makes more power out of the box a 440 or 318? It's boring as is when you are breathing down the neck of someone else's build. How many LS swapped 69 Camaros/Corvette/Mustang/BMW/whatever. If you want something to be interesting build it yourself.

Gas will flow until we run out. It's not some bottomless resource. Fresh water is becoming a fleeting resource by the day as well. Natural gas and "clean" coal are destroying the ice caps and glaciers and if you ever go to Alaska, you can see it for yourself. Pretty depressing stuff. I love my muscle cars, but I think hot rodders should embrace EV's. You could definitely build a nasty Duster with an EV drivetrain, and you won't have to drive all over BFE to find ethanol free 93 octane
I kindly disagree :) North America was covered with Glacier in the days of the Nomads. No cars, no gas heated homes, or factories. Yet the Glaciers went away. Was Fred Flintstones rock wheel polluting? Oh, that's right, his cow farted. When I was in grade school, we learned about the new ice age, living in igloos in 20 yrs, etc. Then came global warming, oceans covering all the land and no fresh water. Then came my understanding of political scare tactics. Those that preach oceans will cover the shores in 10 yrs turn around and buy million dollar homes on the beach. Those that say the Earth will be destroyed in 12 years unless we ban all cars, buses, and planes still take their private jets and Cadillac escalade parades everywhere. Believers are Doers. Follow money, power, and politics and you'll get the Green New Deal.

I come here for car fun stuff... I'm out :)

What is rarely mentioned is the manufacture and disposal of the batteries. Where do the rare earth materials /minerals come from in the manufacture and who controls the supply of those required materials? What is the environmental impact on surrounding population and ground waters of extracting those materials? What is the toxicity of those materials and their impact on cancer rates? How do we safely dispose of all these batteries once they reach end of useful life? What are the risks and costs to the consumer and general population versus the benefits of using battery powered vehicles compared to other alternatives like hydrogen fueled or natural gas fueled vehicles?

Obama killed hydrogen research. Could you imagine going 1,000 miles on a recharge and exhausting CO2 and water?

The rare earth materials used in car batteries are carcinogenic at the highest level -- check out the mining sites and the EPA's orders as making all of those areas being off limits. Disposal and recycling of these materials is not without a great deal of risk of polluting the disposal areas.

China today controls the world supply of rare earth materials and minerals --- our national defense and security and the security of the free world is dictated by the CCP --- the Chinese CCP has a 50 year plan to dominate the world and their tactics have been in play since Bill Clinton lobbied for their inclusion in the World Trade Organization. China is dominated by a small group of communists who dictate their terms to trading partners. Donald Trump was the first president since China's elevation to the WTO to challenge China's terms of trade and the balance of trade with the USA.

Reality is that the US consumer can determine the acceptance or lack thereof - of electric cars. It is also reality that electric car range anxiety today is real ---- use your heater, or A/C in cold or warm weather and watch the range of an electric car plummet. Driving an electric car at elevated speed saps battery reserves.

What is the current pollution level emitted from the tailpipe of an average 2021 ICE car today? Extremely low compared to cars built even 15 years ago. ICE powered cars will continue to improve as long as research and development continues.

GM, and Honda are working hard in joint projects to develop new battery technology including solid state batteries.
Toyota is also a leader in developing solid state battery technology which could lead to a breakthrough.

The US supply of known natural gas deposits is enough to power all of the world economies for more than 100 years, perhaps even 350 years. Fracking was one method used to extract thee natural gas deposits.

With the pipeline shut down and the price of gas going up almost every other day, we may again be at the mercy of OPEC gouging gas prices and maybe long lines again to get gas like back in the mid 70's.

This sounds political...

Not political whatsoever ....it is factual and informative ...
Bill Clinton bad Donald Trump good...
That was some very political stuff...
These are the kind of "facts" that are discussed on the political part of the Forum daily...

IMO - liquid fuel will be a relic of the old days, the modern world is just using it to cross the nuclear fusion finish line.

You guys realize that the Keystone XL pipeline was a way for Canadian oil to get to an Atlantic access port for export, right?

Virtually zero oil from that venture was slated for US markets.
If it were, I'm pretty sure it could just be picked up at the border.

So what. It's still better to export something (and make a profit on it) than it is to not produce/export it. You actually think it would be better for the U.S. to just leave these natural resources in the ground, and let the importers import from the UAE or some other mid east OPEC country?

Electric cars are being pushed by liberals. You see this nonsense everywhere. They do not understand economics or the country. I don't need to buy another car as long as I live. I will never have a soulless electric car. Another push to sell people what they do not want or can afford. There is no infrastructure to support electric cars. Elections are not a popularity contest. Time to pay up.

You missed my point.

It's Canadian oil.

O.K. ... So why shouldn't we help Canada export their oil? I'm sure the company who owns the pipeline makes a profit off it, plus they will pay U.S. taxes, and employ U.S. citizens. What's so bad about that? Is it better to leave the oil in the ground in Canada, and therefore help the Arabs sell their oil?

ABSOLUTELY NOT on the electric cars. Not for me. Never will be. When I mash the gas pedal, I wanna hear that V8 Scream. That is the whole purpose of what got me into cars. That V8 sound.

I refer you to post #73 back in 2019.

how do you feel about electric performance cars?

I always joke when I pull up next to a Tesla that "I make enough noise for the both of us" I don't care how fast it is they lack "cool"

See how long your battery lasts out in the field on a farm, trains, big trucks, airplanes, ocean ships, you fill in the blanks. The New World order is Communism, Democrats. They won't go without, you will. Remember, Stallin did not have a food shortage problem, he had a people problem. The people lost, just like we will with the current administration.
