So finally got the 70 Dart on the road and it has a remote drivers mirror, but it's pointless. I can't see anything from it.

I have a passenger non remote mirror, but haven't installed it yet.

Do the sport or rally mirrors offer more of a view? I'm looking for more function over style.

Thanks!

You will find the passenger mirror is even more pointless than the drivers one. I put a right mirror on my 66 for style and balance. It doesn't do much.

If you think thats bd, try the passenger mirror. They don’t do much.

The driver side is not that bad. Just not like new cars that we are spoiled on.

I can see a tiny bit out of my passenger mirror. More for looks than looking .

Not installed yet but look's like about what I just paid around 120 smackers for to go on the drivers side of my 69' Cuda which was sans mirrors.

Hadn't really give much thought to the functionality of it prior to purchase but wish this thread had popped before and I'd a scratched that idea.

Uggggggghh. ........Thx.

Well its great to see this reply.

Thanks ToolmanMike and Autoxcuda!

I was going to replace my perfect chrome passenger mirror because I couldn't get it to angle properly to see anything out of it.

Just saved myself about $200.00

I'm thinking abut adding one of those small stick on circular convex mirrors to the passenger side glass mirror to make it more functional. Its about 1.5" in diameter so I'll try it .If it looks too stupid, I'll take it back off.

Anyone else try this??

"Objects in mirror are closer than they appear" LOL

Like they say in "Air America" "we never go back" !

Someone is too use to the lane change light in their modern car, swivel that head !

Go to a parking lot and find a car already parked all by it's self.

Position your car so that the other car is in your blind spot.
(usually this is somewhere a few feet behind your back bumper, and parallel with your car- blocked by the C pillar)

Adjust your passenger side mirror so you can see the car.

Note- you will likely NOT be able to see much of your car's quarter panel if at all. This is normal and a very common error most folks make when adjusting a non-OIMACTTA (objects in mirror are closer than they appear) mirror.

TMM-

That mirror doesn't look like it's made correctly.

The area of the outer housing that's wider should be at the outside edge, not at the bottom.

i have the OE 1968 one on my Barracuda.

fairly useless. You have to bob your head around so much to get the right angle to see out of it. By that time you’ve taking your eye off the road ahead of you too much.

I think the pics Toolmanmike posted make the bottom look like the widest part. But I think that’s deceiving because the mirror needs to be adjusted so far downward.

just took these pics of it

Get what you're saying dadsbee but, if you get the chance, take a 67-69 fast back out for a spin . You'll soon see why a good useable passenger door mirror would be nice to have!!

I've driven them all in my 59 years... I think my Wife's f'n Challenger is the worst machine to check the blind spot. The OP is driving a Dart.. no real blind spots..

yes I have seen A-bodies with those convex mirrors. They told me it’s better. Not too expensive of an experiment for you.

IIRC there is a company that makes replacement mirror glass for classic cars and can be had in "objects are closer" grind.

I've thought about that a few times because I am also trained to see more area in my newer cars, and it is a bit of a shock to get used to when I drive one of the old ones the first few times.

I guess the fact that I was driving before the new mirrors came out I don't think about the ones on my old cars. I've been doing the head bob so long that I do it even on newer cars, still check my blind spots. Mirrors are for planning, still need to check before doing.

When these cars were new, there was a lot LESS traffic.
These mirrors are the same as what I have on my '70 Charger. They seem adequate for me but I also look over my shoulder for RH turns and lane changes.

i think the angles due to seat position, mirror placement, and car width make this situation worse on A-bodies

I think with these cars they moved them around didn't they? as in maybe the mounting pooint isnt ideal, from one year to the next.

On my '63 Valiant I stuck a 3 Inch Convex Blind Spot Mirror on the passenger side mirror. I can view if there is a car in that lane but not how far back from my quarter panel so I turn my head to make sure I'm cleared when changing lanes.

Not exactly, there were two locations forward 69+ and rearward up to 67 (no idea about 68) this was across the board A B & C
Neither place is perfect for everybody, short people hate one, tall the other.

I always check my blind spots when I change lanes, but I like to check my mirrors while driving. Especially if someone is coming in hot beside me.

The passenger side would be nice to have when backing up in a spot. I like to see the lines on the ground. I'll some more searching about the newer glass in older mirrors

I have the sport mirrors on my Duster, they’re ok, but, they’re still small and don’t offer all that much better of a view. But the Duster has a different mirror position too, there’s no wing vent so there’s no post and the mirror is in a different location. On the Darts the mirror is moved further back on the door so the wing vent can open. So not even all A-bodies are the same.

Actually, on B body cars 66 and 67 is farther forward than 68-70.

This is very noticeable and results in a lot more angle of head turning on the 68-70's.

71-74 is back to a decent, more forward mount point.
