Hello Y'all, I had a thread going on about my 340. Its deleted since the server crashed. Turned out the RE dizzy has WAY to much advance built in. ( Thanks Rob!) Coulda toasted something I could not afford to repair, and the parts availability is wack from What I'm seeing here. Called 4 sec flat, the nice lady on the phone said every call she has got about " that guys" dizzys were the same issue. I asked if i could send one of mine in, to have curved, she said they don't touch those units. I have another here. She didn't seem interested unless it was a bronze shaft (original MP)...
I was looking for info on what springs to use, and kinda got a broad answer. The narrow answer was buy a billet dizzy from us and it'll come ready for your specific app. They are $340 + a week and a half. A little more than I wanna wait or spend right now..... any help / suggestions/ tips/ would be great! Thanks Folks!

Send to me. I'll do it. I'll need to know everything about your setup if you decide to do that.

Cool. I started taking an older one apart, damn screws were stripped. And I didn't see how the roll pin on the reluctor did squat. As it was opposite the slot in the shaft.has 2 light springs, but looking at slots, not limited. And that one is old....the nice lady on The phone told me if I wanted a plate to play with, buy a billet unit, and she will give me a plate free. Lol. So the only core I have is an advance auto points unit ( a cheap one, at that, but new, don't know if it can be considered) the one I previously mentioned and the RE unit.... I'm not sure witch one is worse! Hahaha.

Used to be FBO ignition had a kit with springs? Christ. "When I was young" you could buy spring kits "everywhere"

They have one. But, even if I got the book, she said it doesn't help you w/ the springs...she was pretty much set on selling me a billet one...kinda was like we don't touch those, and not worth you messing with. Thing seemed ok, except that it bout killed my mill

I dont understand?

To much initial? To much total?

What RPM do you want full advance at?

Race car? Street car?

Hell i got a few spring kits out of msd units just sitting around.

I seem to remember the mopar performance spring kit was very light and was almost locked out. 1,500 RPM?

Yes they are seriously fast in, good for the strip that's about it. Sure I will get crap on that one.

i usually use the stock light spring, trash the stock heavy one and replace with a mp or mr gasket light spring. that brings total in at about 2100 rpm. you'll probably want the fbo plate though so you can fine tune things..

I’m not convinced a quick curve like that is even any good at the drag strip. At this point it’s pretty much a bad way to fix other issues IMO.

I agree. Really if you get the right curve in a engine it is llike adding a 50 shot of NOS IMO

He is about the only one I recommend. Great ide with the FBO plate he came upo with great for the average person to limit their curve.

Hey Brother, dug the " Face " thread! Its a street car, that i built right on that fine line for stripping on the street! Actually, visa - versa. I built the mill to a limit i thought would be,, and was, still could be a daily. With the balls to come uncorked, at any time, still have some drivablity, Lol. It was in a 66 Ply Sat w/ points. EX wife, she has passed since, took the keys and Bent the frame, a LCA almost 90• backwards, strut, tie rods, basically every thing on the passenger's side i Had to Replace. Now, I didn't think the lugs were compromised. After a 100 MPH roll, I wanted the keep getting it, That Good Feeling said NO. Slowed er down, turned the corner to go back home... New GF had to come get me so I could get a floor jack...a Guy from TX that had a 67 GTX that needed the frame and body, as he rescued his from a mud hole, came and got it for 2500. I could have made way more parting her, but No Way. I wouldn't do it. that car was a part of me , and my baby Princess... so I picked up the Duster I have now for 4 g, slow pay.. and kept the 340 i built, the 727 (80s van unit) and my.8 3/4 4:10s Her ashes went w/ me in the First ride, Shes always in my Jeep The RE dizzy was supposed to have 12° Mech ( in all fairness, maybe that was distributor°°?) All, in by 2200. My ride seems to dig 20-22 @ initial. Never had a problem with it, but I had a feeling to get it posted here, to get knowledge.... popped a light on it, had a walking timing mark. So checked it out.... with Rustys help .i.came up.w/ 47.@ 4000.rpm! Vac can unhooked and blocked.. pulled plugs , looked for piston flakes, spot checked the cylind that's er pressure. 155 on 3. 145 w/ a really slow bat. ( after the 1st 3 jugs. ) that's the thing, I'm not sure where I need the advance to kick out. The thing ran like a brutally scared cat at a pitbull/ Rottie convention..

I don't so, maybe family or a secretary? She said she learns more everyday. A d that's an Awesome Thing! She wants to help keep old American Muscle Cars Running!

The only issue I had, before I realized I could have killed the 349, was a minor hesitation from a dead stop. Probably due to a 2200 stall and the 484 MP cam. From any kinda roll at all, that thing instantly tached out through 1st and 2nd. But ain't no good if I'm blowing up stuff I can't fix... not saying that curve was correct, I dunno.but WAY too much mechanical in.... and if I dail down the initial, it sounds like a weak , non tight crapbag
