I just tried to put my hood back on and snapped the little slider off inside my hood . It’s for adjustment ?I just broken mine . Do they sell new inserts ? Any have a hood for sale ?

Nope and those hoods 70-72 in good shape are unobtainable...you can repair yours..

Unobtainium? I have a beautiful PNW mossy covered one just leaning up against the barn. Thought It would make a nice cornhole board or two. Guess I better just use a hundred twenty dollar sheet of plywood.

Do you have a picture of what you need. I can just about make anything within reason.

Scroll down page 1 of this forum. You will see sale and wanted threads with highlighted boxes. That's the way we do it here. You will need to start a wanted thread for the parts you need as soon as you figure out what you need.

I did that . This is about questions on if or how to replace the internal slider nuts thing , or even what that part is called

Just remove whatever you broke and weld it back together and reinstall it
Not picking up what I’m saying I guess . Inside of the hood there is are two nuts mounted to a bar that runs on a track that slides back and forth. That bar and just broke on both sides . We don’t know what that bar is called let along we can get a new one to cut out and replace and weld in new one. I do know they only did this slider style nuts until 72 . So my options for parts cars are limited as is a whole hood

No I get exactly what you’re saying.
If you can cut the hood open to replace them, why can’t you cut the hood open to repair them? It’s literally just a piece of metal with threaded holes.

One is I don’t know what they are or like like considering they are destroyed and inside of the hood . I’m trying to see what they are even called and trying to see if anyone makes them. Getting them out and copying them may be huge task . I’m not sure if they’ll even come out if I cut up the hood . They seem to run on a track but I don’t know

Are there any slots or holes in the reinforcement ribs?

Post some photos of what you have.

IIRC older cars had fixed nuts and slots in the hinge and newer ones had adjustible nuts as you describe and a single hole in the hinge.

like I keep saying friends . My hoods nuts are connected inside of the hood and slide back and forth.

I think we all understand what you are saying. We are all trying offer up solutions. But you dont seem to want to accept the solutions.

If there are no access holes you will have to create some.

Or

You can enlarge the bolt holes, and weld in some nuts. Then put slots into the hinges for alignment

I realize these solutions . My question is what is those sliding nuts called ? And can I buy them ?

Captive nuts, caged nuts.... doubt you could buy any that are specifically for A body hoods. You might try AMD as they are part of their hood assemblys.

I have not seen one out of a hood but my guess is that there are 2 squares of thicker bar stock welded to a flat or u shapped channel that is loosly held in place inside the rib by a piece of strapping material. The 2 thicker bar stock pieces are drilled and tapped.

BUT since they are installed BEFORE the hood skin is installed to the ribs you still have the problem of getting it inside the hood without compromising the integrity of the hood.

I have not seen an Abody hood off in decades, so if you would post some photos of your hood hinge bolt hole location there might be some creative solutions out there.

The part sticking out is the captive nuts on the rear trunk lid hinges, same idea fot the hood. On the trunk it slides in and is held inplace by a tab and the shape of the tube and the u channel.

Yesssss , how do I buy one ? I don’t mind cutting square out of the hood sliding it on in and welding back plus some extra for supports .

The skin itself began to fail on mine 3 engine extractions ago! I took the hood to Seldomridge (body shop) in Hilliard, Florida and they were able to repair them without disturbing the paint on the topside. We referred to the part in question dozens of times but I don't think we ever used the correct nomenclature. "captive nuts" thanks Dana67'

Im sure there are many ways to do a repair.

As for where do you get the insert, it will probably have to be manufactured.

You might be able to install a nutsert into the existing part in the hood.

If you post some photos of the hood where the hinge bolts up we will have some better answers
