I have a 4 DR Dart 270. I have a 4BBL Torker intake but it will not fit this engine. The way I understand it there are differences from 65 to later years making a 4 bbl intake for this engine nearly impossible to find. What Are my upgrade options?
I've heard that using later year heads will allow me to use the Torker intake but I'm unsure if this is fact or fiction.
What about running a Fitech throttle body? Anyone ever run one of these? Will it add any performance on the factory intake?
Thanks

You are correct, newer heads will allow the use of that intake. '65 is an odd duck for head bolt angles.

So the bolts are smaller at 5/16 instead of 3/8 and they are at a slightly different angle so you would have to come up with some wedgie washers and smaller bolts to make a newer intake fit... Or... you can spend you know some more money and just buy a set of heads maybe even worked over and the intake will fit but I can't say the torker intake would be the best choice for what you're doing but maybe I don't know what you're doing...none the less...a dual plane intake would be more helpful for power to get up to speed quickly.

Not really doing anything specific other than to just get a little more out of this engine. Nothing radical.

I did not realize the difference in bolt angle when I attached a "Tarantula" intake to my '65 Valiant bracket racer. I did have to wiggle the manifold a bit to get all the bolts started. Never had a problem and ran the vehicle at the drag strip a couple of hundred times without a hitch (I did port match the '65 273 cylinder heads to the intake manifold gasket size using a Dremel tool on the kitchen table. That '70's version of the Dremel tool got awfully hot in the process but never gave up the ghost)

So I've got a kinda brand new 600 CFM carb and this intake. Bought em both a few years back for a 66 Dart GT that has since been sold.
Any recommendations for heads?
I'm thinking what ever is most common might be the least expensive. Again, not building a racer, just a little peppier Sunday driver.

You can get a OEM cast iron 4bbl intake that will fit the the heads as is.

I believe you can also drill the bolt holes out on the later manifold to allow the angle but as mentioned above you would need wedge shaped washers.

I have seen aftermarket intakes that have both patterns on it.

Find a 65 4 barrel intake or a D4B Edelbrock. A 600 Edelbrock works good. Either that or find some #920 heads (1966 closed chamber) and you can use a normal small block intake. Magnum heads are another option but it takes special lifters and pushrods and some other parts to make it work. I don't know about EFI. No reason why it wouldn't work.

Toolmanmike gives good advice in his post.

Those intakes have been elusive so far.
The Fitech 2BBL EFI supposedly can support up to 400 HP. I don't expect that of course but the idea of having a clean electronic self adjusting tune sounds kewl. I'm hoping to find someone who's run one for first hand experience.

They are not as plug and play as the manufacturers sell you on. I have notice quite a few guys take their FiTech off and put a carb back on. I as well as most of the members here, have ran carbs for a half a century or more with almost no issues. Your choice. You will still need a 4 barrel intake to run one so the search is on regardless.

Yea, It's never as easy as they claim in their sales pitch. Nothing ever is. They do supposedly sell a 2 bbl one though.

Adapter needed I am sure . Depending on the base size it might bolt directly to a 4 barrel intake. The 2 barrel is more about cfm and less about the base size. (as a replacement for a stock 2 barrel. No you wouldn't want to use a 1000 cfm set up on a 180 horse 273.

Yea, the writeup says this.
Bolts onto H-2300 bolt pattern and R2G manifold with a TD-P#2086.

Yikes, that a pricey little animal.....didn't even know they were still available new!

Have you tried a wanted thread? Someone may have one laying around. I sold a 65 dual quad intake to a friend for $100. They are out there. You may be able to trade for the Torker. Give it a try.

I have a D4B that I’m not going to use. I have $250 into it. The problem is the shipping. I shipped an intake last week and it cost $60.00 from Mesa, AZ to Delaware. That was USPS.
