I have a 1965 barracuda it had a transmission with 2 cables and a floor shifter . I changed the transmission to a newer one , what can i do ?

You can use the original shifter [ shift knob is a black ball with s/s inserts { buttons } each side, right? ]. I have done it. I always liked the knife/through/butter feel of that shifter. I used that early cable shifter on TWO cars that had the later linkage shift. It requires some creativity...

Pinion angle for a street cruiser

Having a zero angle will cause rapid U joint wear because there is no relative movement of the U joint components & all the wear is concentrated in one section.

    Initial Torqueflite tear down findings

Burned clutch plates: I would be checking the clutch piston seals to see if they were damaged during installation [ nicks, cuts, rolled over ]...or if they have gone hard. Gone hard could be a before or after event.

Are My New 727 Clutches, Bands, or Fluid Burning?

Hi stall c'ters generate a lot of heat, so you need a large fluid cooler. Fluid heat is the killer. It hardens the seals, which then cause clutch/band slippage.....& smell.

Strange Ticking Noise is coming from my transmission?

I had a clocking bolt come out of a mini starter, dropped into the f/wheel cover. Made an intermittent noise as described.

    58 dodge d100 315 poly

The transmission that will bolt up is most likely the 2 speed Powerflite. It is a heavy, cast iron case unit. The cast iron 3 speed TF will also likely bolt up. The crank flange should have drilled holes, not threaded like later cranks. The TC that fits these has 6 or 8 studs that stick out the...

    Shift Kit Cupped Orifice Purpose

My TG instructions also says: if fr clutch plates are worn, have excessive clearance & too many return springs, engine flaring maybe experienced shifting into high gear. Fixes: -adj throttle linkage for slightly later shifts & re-adjust fr band to 2 turns. - if flare up still occurs, remove...

    Shift Kit Cupped Orifice Purpose

The cupped orifice is mentioned in the TransGo instructions of the 1970s. Not sure if it is in current instructions. It is used to control the 2-3 shift timing.

    727 grinding at idle

My guess is worn bushings such that something [ a drum? ] is wobbling & hitting another component.

904 slow 2-3 shift, should I be worried?

I think it is re-build time, BUT to be sure, adjust the KD band first to see if it corrects the problem. A shift kit will not fix a worn out trans & could make the problem worse.

'65 904 forward clutch piston question...

Measure across the 'un'-swedged section of the hole to get the diam. Then buy a ball that size.... Looks to be 3/16" or 1/4", but only guessing from the pic.

    727 Transmission issue

Sounds like KD band related. Seals in KD servo or spring broken?

727 slipping in reverse when hot

Manual low has the L/R band applied, same as rev, so it does not slip there, band adj should be ok. Otherwise, probably a valve body/stuck valve problem. Pretty sure the TF requires additional line pressure for rev operation. If so, a worn pump maybe the cause.

    TF3 shift kit governor issue

My Transgo TF Man shift kit instructions are dated 1976. Says to proceed with TF2 kit & use 1-2 gov valve included in THAT kit. Fig 11, p. 9 in the TF1-2 kit. Two types of valves are shown, both need grinding, no machining reqd in a lathe.

    TF3 shift kit governor issue

Only guessing here, but the TF3 is a full manual kit. I suspect the 1-2 governor function will be disabled in a man shift trans, so it's shape does not matter.

8.75 cone sure grip locked on turns

Might also try a different oil, one that comes ready for use with limited slip diffs. My car, also, has the cone type LSD, had a slight whine on coasting. Redline oil cured the whine. I know the whine was caused by gear noise, not the cones, just pointing out how different oils can make a...

idle issues with new A500 behind a fresh 318

600 rpm is a huge drop going into gear, no matter what the idle timing is. I would suspect an issue with the trans.

TF 904 Auto slipping 2nd to 3rd when manual shifting @ higher revs

Cuda, I can see why people do it with the 727/904 trans. [ leave the linkage off ] Once the engine is modified, it can be a lot of messing around to get the linkage/ratio just right for part throttle shifting and the WOT shift. The GM Turbo 400 system is much better.

TF 904 Auto slipping 2nd to 3rd when manual shifting @ higher revs

Yes, it keeps the fwd/factory pattern. From memory, the kit is designed so that it can be returned to full auto mode if desired. Clever piece of kit!

TF 904 Auto slipping 2nd to 3rd when manual shifting @ higher revs

I do not know anybody here that does man VB conversions. Doubt there is a 'market' for Chrys. I have a GM car which has a T350 trans. I bought the man VB from Summit, who are great to deal with. It comes as a bolt in deal. Another option is a Transgo manual shift kit, that converts your existing...
