Stop in for a cup of coffee

Finally get a day to decompress. I am getting ready to fetch Jodi at the airport. She has been gone a month. I have spent the morning on clean up detail. Plus we rented out the BnB so I had all that laundry as well. Arghh

Stop in for a cup of coffee

Step drill is the way to go. You can get a cheapy at HF. They are good for maybe three holes! Blue tape the bit where you want to stop or it will pull itself in farther than you want. Lord have mercy where is Karl?

    Small block w/ 3.79 crank

Not that I know of but IIRC you can use a 4 inch stroke piston and a 6.250 rod with a 3.79 crank. The problem is finding an off the shelf piston with the correct dome and geometry and something with thinner than 1/16 rings.

no lights, not even a blink

Check everything incl. grounds, and the dimmer switch on the floor is usually bad if not replaced. Brake lite switch under dash that works off the pedal check it. I hate wiring!!!! Especially when a yahoo had his hands on the car, aka "boy racer".

Transmission mount with engine and mid plate.

Were you running a mid and engine plate? If so did you run a solid trans mount with no bushings. Thanks

no lights, not even a blink

yup I can send power down the wire from inside the dash and it works, I am starting to suspect I should just check the connection from the battery in the trunk to the factory harness but having someone reinforce the obvious helps with triggering these other ideas, thanks

    Small block w/ 3.79 crank

Am I reading it right? A 3.79 crank with a stock length rod uses a stock piston?

    Speedometer jumping around help

Its been a while since I have done this, but you need to remove your cable to grease or replace, either way. What I can’t remember is if the cable itself can be pulled through the casing once it is removed due to the squared off ends. If it does come through, don’t pull it all the way out. Pull...

How important is 1psi of fuel pressure?

1 psi won’t make a huge difference but dropping it 3 ponds down to 5 where it should will. I get you want period correct and don’t want a regulator (I wouldn’t do a dead head regulator so I’d say a return regulator but that’s even more expensive and more work) then leave it at 8 psi and tune...

    What spark plugs for 340

Champion plugs also belong in the trash . I'v had excellent luck with autolite plugs. Back in the day when I did use Champion plugs they were usually good for a couple thousand miles at best.

    Power steering gear valve question

I like to center the valve as best I can before starting, tighten the bolts all the way, start it up, then loosen them just a tad....just enough so I can tap the valve for final adjustment if needed. sometimes you don't need to do anything if you luck out on the install. If you mark the position...

    Roller lifter conversation

If you look at a stock block you will see 16 huge holes in the middle of each lifter bore. What happens is the band of the roller goes up past that hole letting oil escape instead of going to your bearings. To compound this point the lifter bores are worn from being 30 plus years old. The best...

    Power steering gear valve question

Probably dislodged an O ring, or, when you started it up with the valve too loose and it blew an O ring from it's seat. Pull it apart and try again.

What's wrong with it the way it is? Roadkill would probably cross country rally it as it sits.

I'm pretty sure it came in with the electronic ignition. The wiring difference is basic. Input tied (Ign1 - blue), output to ignition module and coil. Alan

    Owner hoping for 50k?

That car is no way worth anything close to 50k. People think that because they have a old car that it's worth a fortune and most of the time it's not. I know where there's a low mileage ultra clean 1974 duster and they are asking 40k for it and it's a 318 car it's been for sale for at least 2 years

    Roller lifter conversation

I got one and read the process. It seems as though its trying to slow flow and block and block off some oil passages. Is this necessary or will she run with out doing this. I have only assembled the bottom end no torquing. Got this racing manual and read that but this is a racing manual. I will...
