    1968 340 push rod issue

All right, first off you need to post some pics of your rockers. Stock '68 340s did not have adjustable rockers, so we need to know what you've actually got. At this point I'm going to guess stock '64-'67 273 mechanical rockers. You didn't say what the replacement cam is- hydraulic or solid...

Crazy Question: does anybody make 1.6 stamped steel rocker arms for SBM??

To make a 1.6 from a 1.5 arm, Rocker Arm Specialties changes the angle of the adjuster hole, retaps it for a larger thread adjuster and returns them with the new adjusters.

    And your best guess

as to what brand these rocker arms are? There is no major name on them, except 'cat' under the bottom. They are metal and the odd thing is that the adjusters are cup type. The push rods are the same on both ends, ink pen like. I have 2 that have scarred roller wheels and 1 that has the thru pin...

Why do I keep breaking rocker arms?

Just picture the scenario that would have to happen to break the Slant six rocker arm. Coil bind that would flatten the cam first after bending the push rod unless it's a hell of a push rod so then the next weakest thing would be the rocker or stock adjuster. Now it's a question of what kind of...

Why do I keep breaking rocker arms?

Mine was milled around .175 and trust me, there's a LOT more adjuster threaded into the arms than you would think. I wouldn't have run it otherwise.

Black Friday sales. Who’s buying what.

When I talked to Mike at B3 a while back, he mentioned that the PRW stainless rockers have a nicer roller axle than the SM stainless rockers. They may be made in the same factory, but according to him, there is a difference in axles. He also recommended soaking them in oil prior to installation...

340 adjustable LOCKING rocker arm kit

I actually only need the threaded adjusters with lock nuts for a stock 1970-71 340. I've checked many places only with a NO, don't have: Bouchillon, Jegs, Summitt, Mancini, Hughes. This is a pic of the first two bent CompCam pushrods. The adjustable rocker arm set is for the 273 engine and...

    273 Rockers

First year up to a certain date, the oil holes in the rocker shafts weren't slot cut for better oiling. That can be and should be done. As mentioned, 2bbl and 4bbl used the same ones in a given year. '64-7 were solid cam with adjustable rockers. '68-9 were hydraulic cam with non-adjustable...

    Stainless, Bushed PRW Rocker Arms

For pushrod oiling to the rocker arms the adjusters should ideally look something like the picture below. The portion that is recessed and void of threads should intersect with the hole drilled in the rocker so it receives the oil. The hole coming up from the pushrod cup should be drilled a...

    W2 Heads

Not really. The only way I know of (and it’s what I do and it’s a PITA) is to mock everything up, leave the adjusters out and scribe on the shaft there the holes needs to be. Then disassemble it all, and drill out the shafts. And those mother humpers are HARD. Once you do that though you’ll...

I have done 8 drag weeks, probably sign up this year also depending on where it is. No better time can be had with your car, 5+ days of racing and traveling with race car people, it's hard to beat. Test and prepare is the best advice I can give. I have been lucky and have done all 8 with...

340 adjustable LOCKING rocker arm kit

Technically you do not need those adjusters with the Locking nuts. A very simple solution is to tap the access hole on this side of the rocker arm that the factory used to drill the oil Passage. You tap that and then you go to the hardware store and you get some small I believe their number...

340 adjustable LOCKING rocker arm kit

OEM 340 6-pak engines did have the machined pad and jam/lock-nut on the adjuster. Got a few questions: * Does the OP have hydraulic lifters? (273 pushrods are normally about .25"-.30" too long for hydraulic lifters.) * Were the rockers shimmed because the pushrods were too long? *...
