    273 with 360 heads/valves

I blew up a 340 in my 70' swinger and while a new 340 block was being built,i just threw in a 318 shortblock for awhile with all the 340 components. Block already had a stock 68' 340 4 spd cam in it. There was not a lot of difference in how it ran and it reved faster than the 340. I would say it...

    Building a stroker, advice please

I went .040 over for a displacement of 418". Diamond forged pistons/ Eagle 7/16" I beam rods/Scat 4" forged crank/Childs and Albert rings and the usual oiling tricks w/8 qt. pan. The unusual route i went was that i used a set of Edelbrock magnums heads that were ported by Hughes Racing Engines...

    Small block mopar price check

The last 340 block i bought was $250 on E-bay. I had to drive about 100 miles into Northern MN,but man what a deal i got there. The guy had tons of Mopar stuff and i dropped another $1,000 for an Art Car built 727/2,600 stall setup/oil pans/timing chain covers etc. etc. but included in that was...

    opinions on stroker kit?

I went a different route than most and i ordered each individual piece from different places. 340 Block work

Depending on your budget,i would say yes to both questions. I checked my 418" alignment straigtness before it went to the machineshop, and i even installed ARP studs. I put the bearings in,torqued it down and there was no binding and it felt good,so i did not have it align honed. I would...

Lets hear what questionable methods you've used to save money

I had a 69' 340 timing cover and when i built my 360, of course the timing tab is on the opposite side. I cut a piece of birch and ground it down to look original and epoxied it in place, painted it,located TDC and painted the timing marks on it. No cost, only time. Glen

    .040"/.040" steel crank

I just sold a 418" stroker w/Eddy magnum head engine. I'm looking at doing another build and came across a 70' block, tanked, decked, bored and honed w/plates, .040" over. TRW 2316 pistons, bushed rods and a steel crank,however... it is cut -.040"/.040". Just wondering if it would loose a little...

Need a stroker kit for my 340

You did not specify if you are looking for a forged or a hyper piston. Assuming you are looking for a hyper piston it may be a bit harder to find in .040" over which will give you 418" instead of what most sell as a 416 or .030" over in a kit. I have .040" Forged Diamonds #51412, but mine are...

Starting engine without driveshaft hooked up

Just installed engine and trans. I've got the rear seal to trans still blocked off so no oil leaks out back. Has anyone ever fired an engine for 10-15 min. just to check for leaks without installing as driveshaft is still in shop being balanced? Glen

    And another Canadian

Yes,the side trim is factory. The trim on the fender is a cast pot metal with "Monaco 500" emblems and the door on back is a "brite metal" which is painted satin black down the middle. The car has a front frame section and not a uni-body like most Mopars as you can see in the firewall pics.
