New to 340 so I have questions

Contrary to popular belief, the X heads are nothing special and exactly the same as batches of J and O heads providing they had the 202 valves. Later on, the valves were reduced. On '70 340s there are 4 other castings that are technically correct, besides the 'X head. They are 0, U, Z and 'J...

If it's missing pistonies, it should have better gas mileage.

Jack placement on a 70 swinger

Excellent reference thread. Although I hadn't realized how difficult it was to put a jack away in the trunk. :thumblef:

Jack placement on a 70 swinger

The jack base actually sits up side down on top of the spare tire rim center hole. There is a threaded rod that comes through the rim and jack base and tightened up with a big wing nut. The jack base shown on the pic is just laying there and not in the right place. You will likely need a...

Jack placement on a 70 swinger

There is a metal bracket that is welded onto the top of the wheel housing that the jack lays on and also a receiving bracket like a sleeve that is welded on to the back of the trunk extension where the jack inserts into. The jack is held tight with a spring that connects from the jack to a...

    1970 Swinger 340 Hemi Orange 4 speed

Replacing and entire clip is a heck of a lot of work and chances of finding one without a rusted left side frame rail will be pretty slim. It's a common problem on the left side where the battery often leaked juice or water accumulated. Just buy the special frame rail reinforcing recapping...

    1970 Swinger 340 Hemi Orange 4 speed

Nothing like the look and smell of new parts! Say, where did you get the new repo door VIN sticker? A few years ago, I found a guy online who made perfect reproduction under fender VIN tags providing you could send him a photo and all the coded info from your old rusted one.

    1970 Swinger 340 Hemi Orange 4 speed

Very nice workmanship on your restoration! I am on my fourth Dart Swinger resto and my son and I have it on a rotisserie right now. He's doing all the body work. It's a 1970 340 numbers matching car with bucket seats and lots of options. This one will be my last and a keeper one!

Progress on my 340 Hood Scoops!

I would not put scoops on a 1968/69 Dart since I think it would look very odd. That car is meant to have a power bulge hood. It's like putting scoops on a 1973 and over Dart. It just doesn't fit IMO.

    Disposing of old gasoline?

Back in the old days, I would have used the old gas for "boy scout water" to light a camp fire! You could consider safely burning it off a little at a time in a pail of sand. You see refinery stacks all over the place burning of the sour gas so that might be the most environmentally friendly...

    broken emblems

Trying to repair one of those emblems is next to impossible and unfortunately, I don't think that particular '69 Dodge emblem is being reproduced. I happen to have one in very nice condition that I was saving from a former 1969 resto project that I can sell you. ($25.00 + $7.00 shipping). I...

    Sparky's Swinger

That green velvet seat cover material looks like it could have come from some of those old style mortuary drapes. How about brown shag rug and fur on the rear package tray!!! Well, that's what my '70 Dart Swinger 340 had in it when I bought it. It was stored for 12 years so I guess it was in...

Tap vs. Bottled–What Should You Drink?

Think of all the crap you put into your mouth when you were a kid including dirt, dirty toys, and who knows what else. It's amazing how people survived for the last several thousands of years drinking lake water or how indigenous people in the jungles of the world survive drinking the same...

Wanted - Rust free swinger 340

You should ask that dude if they would accept a trade in on a 1985 Honda Accord with 265,000 miles and only "slight" rusting and smokes a little when you start it up.......LOL. What a bunch of "A" holes! My favorite is from some dork in Nigeria that I got e-mail from a couple of times a...

    Rotisserie attachment to Duster

The rear trunk area bumper holes are plenty strong enough for mounting the rotisserie to the car. I have done this on four Dart Swingers now and have never had a problem. Have a look at my Dart Swinger rotisserie plans and set up installation at my web site link. The Duster would work the...

You call that a "shop"? There's no grease or crap laying around. I've seen some living rooms where the floors aren't that clean. Looks more like a hospital operating room.
