CHEAPest way to convert rear axle bolt pattern to big bolt pattern???

I was under the impression (looking for the post where I read/mis-read) that the pre-'67 A-bodies had a narrower rear end than the newer ('73-'76) A-bodies. If the width is the same then I will just locate and install one of the newer rear ends. Does everyone agree that the rear end width is...

CHEAPest way to convert rear axle bolt pattern to big bolt pattern???

Cool. Nice response time by the way! What kind of shop would do this kind of work? Driveline specialty shops?

CHEAPest way to convert rear axle bolt pattern to big bolt pattern???

Hello all, I have a 1964 Valiant, slant 6 motor with an A-904 trans (I think). Its an automatic, its slow, and I'm keeping it that way. I assume it has the stock rear-end. I'm upgrading my brakes in the front to discs from the 73-76 a-body. That involves the ~11 inch rotors with slider...

What type of coolant does everyone use?

While getting my radiator leak fixed, I was wondering what types of coolant everyone uses? I am interested to see if anyone widely agrees on any certain type... (Searched, but couldn't find anything useful or remotely related)

    Headlight Switch/Knob Removal

74Dusted is correct. The "star" washer underneath the knob must be unscrewed in order to remove the plactic bezel from the dash.

Distributor Lubrication? & is my stock alternator enough for HEI?

I did the install with the 16 gauge fuse holder and some other weak gauge wiring in a couple places just to test my wiring setup. It started and ran fine. The next day, I took my time and reran everything with at least 14 gauge wire, usually using 12 gauge. Car runs pretty much just like before...

Distributor Lubrication? & is my stock alternator enough for HEI?

I got an inline fuse holder that is prerun with 16 gauge wire. I'll run most of the length with 12 gauge, but that little bit is still 16... Think I'll be okay?

Distributor Lubrication? & is my stock alternator enough for HEI?

I'm about to do the HEI upgrade, and I have a NOS Mopar single pickup electronic ignition distributor with vacuum advance that I got from Old Car Parts Northwest. In my '64 service manual, it recommends lubricating the stock (points type) distributor in a couple places... Is there any place I'm...

What do you mean "one of the ball joints is tack-welded into place"? also, are those the slider or pin type calipers?

Aftermarket gauges into stock bezel? (64 Valiant)

Just to bring some resolution to this thread, I sent my gauges to RedFish (Ben) and he got my stock gauges fixed up and looking great. I strongly recommend him. He is very fair in price and communicates very promptly. I will be praising him to all who ask, and recommending him to those who may...

    Good body shop? Atlanta, GA

I got my first estimate: Gary's body shop in Decatur estimated $12K. That's for a media blast, metal repairs, with me stripping most of the parts myself. Ouch... Apparently the rear quarters are bent up and need work. Gary has been around for quite a while, and does excellent work. His shop...

    Floor Pan Opinions?

A new pan from auto specialty (.com?) Is only $120. I will have it replaced when I get the body work done, but I will just wait until then. Thanks to all for your help. I'll post the website when I get home as a reference to anyone who may be interested.

    No valve adjustment?

Thanks to everyone who contributed to help me resolve my problem. I am humbled by your knowledge base. I kowtow as I back away from your presence. Last question: how can I change the name of my post to say "solved" ? I like bringing resolution to questions I pose.

    No valve adjustment?

Update: the ticking is now GONE! Engine runs nice and smooth and the ticking gradually disappeared after driving it around for a while. I assume the new lifter just needed to get properly pumped up/ lubricated with the new oil. Either that or the holy water I spritzed onto the valve cover did...

    No valve adjustment?

I did no cleaning while it was disassembled, only a basic wipe down of where the rockers mount on the head. I will investigate using the dial gauge to check the cam. Thanks, Dan.

    wadaya think?

Before I agree with the "leave it a 4-door and go buy a coupe" crowd.... what is the advantage/purpose of this? As Hannibal Lecter would say: First principles. What is its nature? What are you seeking by doing this?

    No valve adjustment?

Update! I did my tune-up today. Oil change (Mobil 10W-30 with K&N oil filter), Spark Plugs (NGK ZFR5N with washers removed), spark plug tube seals, air filter, Distributor cap and rotor button. http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=138010&highlight=#138010 I also did the fuel line...

    No valve adjustment?

I assume you have "done*" countless engine swaps... Unfortunately for me, I don't live in a complex with a large lot full of empty parking spaces. The car is in a covered (good) community garage (bad) that is very full of cars, so everyone is watching every little thing I do down there. If I...

    No valve adjustment?

This isn't a Pep Boys or anything. This guy runs a small classic car shop. I talked with him about my car for over an hour today and he was VERY knowledgeable about the slant six. He knew lots of small things about the car and the motor and I didn't even have it up there with me. He runs it by...

    No valve adjustment?

I will give an update soon. My gauges are out being freshened up, and when I get them back, I can get the car running again. I plan on flushing motor, oil change, and check push rod performance. I will pull the rocker arm assembly and make sure the push rod is not bent. After that, I will have...

Need help with '64 push-button bezel disassembly

Too bright? I assumed I would just make them as bright as possible... No? I already bought 3 3886X bulbs from the place you've recommended in some of your previous posts... 2 for the gauges and 1 for the push-button controls.

    Floor Pan Opinions?

1964 Valiant Convertible I've owned this car for all of 2 months. I pulled the front seat to crawl under the dash. When I stepped in, the floor pan flexed inward, and when I stepped off it sprung back. SO, now concerned with the integrity of the pans, I pulled the seats and carpet. The...

Need help with '64 push-button bezel disassembly

Ah! I had a sneaking suspicion that these were removable! I had tried tapping one of them off with a screwdriver, but I didn't know for sure, so I stopped trying, for fear of damaging the plastic. I will break out my snap ring pliers this weekend. Dan, you are my bearded knight in shining armor...
