What do you use to winterize?

I agree with DeCon being a bad choice due to the fact that it is intended to ATTRACT mice and such with the intent that once eaten, it will kill them. We defintely want to keep critters away!

What do you use to winterize?

I live in Upstate NY (lots of really cold temps, and lots of snow). I don't have access to a garage, so I park my car on a 16x8 plastc tarp, and cover it as well. I completely fill fuel tank. Add Sta-bil, and run engine for 5 minutes to get it through the fuel system. Put oil soaked steel wool...

    PCV and Breather question

It stalled instantly. So, I couldn't say if there is any suction there.

    PCV and Breather question

Wow. Good info. Thanks. I did pull the hose from the carb fitting and it stalled instantly. I will look into a new PCV valve as this looks to be the original one, or it's ay least very years old. I just need to research the correct PCV for replacement. Thanks again.

    PCV and Breather question

I bought it from a local who was the original owner. She had all the service records etc.. But, yes. I was thinking maybe blow-by also.

    PCV and Breather question

I clean it once each spring with gas. I have not cleaned it yet this year. It smokes all the time at idle.

    PCV and Breather question

I recently did a carb swap on my '65 170 auto to a Carter BBD (made for slant 6 application - curved PCV fitting, thick choke airhorn, and no bowl vent fitting). The car runs beautiful. However, I am now seeing small amounts of smoke (no oil) coming from my oil fill cap (front black cap in...

Lokar throttle and kick-down set up

Thanks for the advice! The system is working great. I'm very happy with the conversion to 2 bbl's. There is no flex or deflection at all. The pull points for both the throttle and the kickdown cables are equal distances from the pivot point on the carb's throttle lever, and the steel I used is...

    Throttle Cable

I just did this conversion my self and used Lokar stuff. I ordered the 24" throttle cable. I had to trim about 8 - 10 inches.

    Cracked Carter...

Update. I used JB Weld, and it worked great. I also bought a core BBD for $30. I was nervous about the JB Weld, and swapped the fuel bowl onto my carb from the core I just got, then did a rebuild. So, we will never know how the JB Weld would do long term...

    Super 6 Set UP

If I read this correct, you are being offered a 2bbl carb, 2bbl intake, and an aircleaner off a a 225 slant with manual trans. If that is the case, you are correct. You can use your current exhaust manifold. I am assuming you currently have a slant without A/C in your car now. So, your current...

    Alternator question

After adding a stereo to my car (1965 Valiant 170 slant 6 with power steering/no AC), the power to said stereo cuts off when the brake lights come on, and the RPM's fall under 1100. The stereo comes back on when the I let off the brakes, and RPM's come back up. I believe the alternator (original...

    Cracked Carter...

The carb works really well, and there is no wiggle at the throttle shaft. I don't want to use another carb if I don't have to. I think I will try the JB Weld route first and see how that holds up! If it does not work, I will look into everyone's offers for new cores. Thank you all. Everyone is...

    Cracked Carter...

Hi Ed. It is for a 1965 170 slant. The carb I believe, is from a late 70's Slant 225 (it has the curved PCV nipple, and thick choke airhorn).

    Cracked Carter...

Hi all. I discovered that my new to me Carter BBD has a cracked bowl and is leaking gas. If I by a cheap core, would it be possible to swap the middle section (bowl) of the two carbs out?

Lokar throttle and kick-down set up

I worked on this Carter BBD and throttle/kick-down bracket this weekend. The Lokar bracket was in the way of the throttle lever mixture screws if attached the way Lokar designed it, so...I made an extension for the bracket from a carpenter's square, and made a lever to attach the throttle cable...
