Slant six only runs while starter running

I don't regret spending all of three dollars to replace something that was cracked and corroded. I'd already put it on the list of things to go.

Pardon, is this transmission still up for sale?

V8 to Slant Six swap: Sacrilege to must, but what would need to be done to have it happen?

I'm still keen on getting a manual, either 3 or 4 speed, for my duster but I'm pretty sure that buying another car of comparable condition that already has a manual in it is as cheap or cheaper than gathering all the parts needed to do the swap. What happens if I find a v8 duster with a manual...

Slant six only runs while starter running

Ordered a new one. Honestly, if I have any reason to replace something in this car I will. A lot of this stuff is pretty old and tired but I don't have the budget to rip everything out. Doing it first-come-first-serve. I'll check that out when I get a chance. Haven't had a lot of time with...

Slant six only runs while starter running

Put a new Ballast resistor in. . . Still doesn't run, same problem. I also found something else that's a problem, not electrical though.

[WANTED] 74 Slant Six throttle linkage with transmission kick-down *complete*

That's it right there! You wouldn't happen to have the correct springs and clips for it too? I've gotten a message from a guy with everything but the bracket plate. Think I could work it out with you and him and get a complete one.

[WANTED] 74 Slant Six throttle linkage with transmission kick-down *complete*

See, thing is, what I got earlier is a 72-73 bracket and kick down and it doesn't have the right mount. I need the 74 bracket for sure but I also need the springs and clips for holding it together. Take some pictures and send them my way in PM.

Slant six only runs while starter running

Ordered a new ballast resistor. I looked into it and it sounds like this is a textbook example of what happens when they go bad. In a few days I'll have it in the car and we'll see how she goes. Stay tuned. . .

[WANTED] 74 Slant Six throttle linkage with transmission kick-down *complete*

The complete throttle linkage with the kick-down for the transmission for a 1974 slant six and more specifically one used with a Holley 1920. I got one from a fellow here but it was for a different year and doesn't fit. To stress it again: please have one that is complete and if nearly so tell...

Slant six only runs while starter running

To be more precise: When I turn the key over and switch on the starter the car starts right up but will only remain running as long as the key is kept turned/ignition switch on. I have one suspect but I'm not going to any conclusions just yet. The kid I bought this car from wired in an push...

Driving the AlCan in a '74 Duster - What do I do to prepare my car?

See, this is another thing. When I look through threads about 318s people report that they're getting bellow 20mpg after they've thrown a couple thousand dollars of EFI, ignition, intakes, and exhausts on the thing. I've yet to find anything serious numbers on either side of any argument. To...

Driving the AlCan in a '74 Duster - What do I do to prepare my car?

Duly noted. Thank you. This is the exact stuff I wanted to know. Bravo, sir. This is the meaty stuff I need. That's something I never really put much though to. What drew me to the slant six is that sweet sweet 30mpg out of a mid century domestic car. Whats the fuel economy difference between...

Driving the AlCan in a '74 Duster - What do I do to prepare my car?

Hello FABO! I've posted a few threads here and there about stuff I've been working on but it's high time I start asking the big questions and garner the sage wisdom of the Mopar Elders. I'm planning to embark on something that could only be possible when you're in your mid twenties and have...

Removing all emissions control/vacuum systems: Good or bad idea?

These questions mostly come from a place of not knowing anything about cars that were ever made to smog. I've looked through a few of the other emissions control/EGR threads people have put up and I'm starting to draw my own conclusions as to what needs to go. The problem I'm really facing is...

Removing all emissions control/vacuum systems: Good or bad idea?

Still plugging along on Pinkie, my '74 225 Duster. I live in California and the car was, from what I can tell, a CA market car and it came with the full outfit of emissions control systems that new CA cars had to have in the 70's. Thing is now all these systems aren't needed anymore because the...

Transplanting '74 factory A/C from car to car (is it a good idea?)

Thanks, that was really good to know! A question that's sparked by knowing that: Do any of the aftermarket a/c units like the ones from Classic Industries work for 6 cyl. cars? The ones I found were for v8s and on top of that do they not work because they're not made to fit a the 6 cyl...

Transplanting '74 factory A/C from car to car (is it a good idea?)

Hey FABO, I've looked through the manuals I have ready anything about installing or removing the a/c system on the 6 cyl. cars. There are plenty of warnings about not disconnecting refrigerant lines unless it's been drained first. Is transplanting a factory a/c set up from one 6 cyl. to...

All the way from Berkeley California

Don't worry about that. I'm not a fan of intelligent telephones. I can imagine she looked killer. What was her color? Did you put specialty tires on the slots?

All the way from Berkeley California

Thanks guys! I'm going to be needing a lot of pointers and info at any turn on this. She's the first domestic car I've ever owned. Only ever had Brit cars and air-cooled VWs before this. I'll keep you all updated.

All the way from Berkeley California

Don't be too certain. This the bay area. If you live on the coast, the slant in the air has been known to rip the chrome right off bumpers. I've seen it with my own eyes. But yeah, things are pretty good out here.

All the way from Berkeley California

You'd be surprised! I'm actually one of them tree-huggers as they call 'em. The car right in front of the Duster, just out of frame, is my parent's 07 Prius but I will give it to ya - Nissan leafs (leaves?) are uglier than sin. Again, you'd be surprised. Theres a guy a short walk from me who's...

Need info/the part: 225 1bbl throttle bracket linkage with kickdown

Currently 'Pinkie', my 74 Duster, has a cludged together throttle bracket that theoretically lets the car move under it's own power. Picture of that is the first picture. Specifics of the car: '74 Duster with 225 with 1bbl Holey 1920 and an A-904 for the trans. I'm looking for info on and...
