Look at the oil pan gasket for a 2.4 from a SRT-4, it has as close as you can get to a crank scraper in a production type motor. this is combined with the balance shaft housing that acts like a Windage tray.

How far can I go before losing Quench? .040? .050? I'm building 2 408s with EQ heads and Icon 983 pistons, would I chance more detonation with a lower Compression ratio at .050 Quench than the higher ratio at .040?

It's a 27' Magnum Marine 24 degree deep V off shore hull. Old school 7000 Lbs of wave cutting fun. The exhaust is 1986 Chrysler Marine center rise iron manifolds that internally resemble passenger side 340 HO manifolds upside down with 3" risers and 4" thru hull pipes. It is a Hughes lobe.

Not on stern drive applications. The outdrive takes care of the prop direction. On the Volvo drives you actually flip the shift lever so one is in forward and one is in reverse when each shifter is pushed forward into "drive". On inboard and V drive boats they used to run reverse rotation motors...

Marine application, motors run under full load all the time, boats do not coast or freewheel, and the maximum RPM they will see is about 5000 RPM. In a marine application a cam with too much overlap causes reversion sucking the water that is mixed with the exhaust back into the combustion...
