    5 liter MOPAR

Right. All of the polys had forged cranks as did most of the 273 LA motors. One of the reasons for the LA motor was to cut weight. I think a cast crank is okay to about 650 HP. i don't expect more than 500-510.

    5 liter MOPAR

Rules say either run a 273 block with no weight penalty or a 318 with weight penalty or go home. I spoke to a tech inspector at SVRA who said be able to certify the crank and try using a 340 block. He would not guarantee approval.

    5 liter MOPAR

Anyone out there making a 2.56 stroke crank for the B motor? The con rods would need to be about 10 inches long.

    5 liter MOPAR

Wow! I would like a dyno sheet on that motor. W-8 heads could not stay on motor if they are aluminum (rules).

Will the block take a .040 cut? I thought the max was .030.

    5 liter MOPAR

I know there are mostly ¼ mile junkies here. There was a time when MOPAR was interested in lap times, too. I am thinking of something that might be raced today. Kind of stops thoughts of the NASCAR attempt that was so owned by hyper-pack Valiants in 1960 & 1961 that the series was dropped...

    additional weight ?

??? Only weight in trunk I have seen help things is a battery. And that is because it has been moved from under the hood. Generally speaking, extra weight should be avoided as it hurts all performance measurements to include fuel economy. That said, lots of folks swear by a bag of sand or...

Will my hood pins be enough?

If you're still not sure, put a large sheet metal plate (about the size of a CD) centered on the pin on the underside of hood. Use the bolt holes for the exterior pin plates to use the inner plate to sandwich the hood.

    Ford pulls out of NHRA

This stuff happens from time to time depending on corporate fortunes and politics. Ford pulled out of NASCAR in the 71 or 72 season for seven or eight years. It killed our "back-door" parts supply and support, and put us in a Chivvy for the '73 season.

    Kurt Busch Fired.....

X 2 Both Penske and Gibbs are class acts and their race teams reflect it. No surprise that Kurt was shown the door. Lil' bro is next .... Here's a clue guys. You can get PO'd with a situation, but ya gotta maintain self control. Demeaning people or stuffing them into the fence does...

Help me decide on a hood for my race car

Voted for the prostock, but not the one you had pictured. That style reminds me of a male dog lying on his back. Why not something a bit more retro? Like this maybe?

    Front Suspension?

/6 t-bars and 0º toe-in are old school tricks. Tubular control arms are probably lighter than the factory pieces. Ditto for some cross-drilled disk rotors. I have known one guy who ran drums on the front who drilled them. (Rationale for running drums on front was that springs pull back...

    anyboby smallblocked a 70's colt?

I agree with Locomotion on the weight issue. Did you happen to notice the difference between the location of the engine in the Craigslist car and the photos that 34066Sedan posted. The Craiglist car shows the majority of the engine forward of the front wheel centerline. All of the racers have...

    73 318 will J heads work???

The 73 models were probably the low point in terms of compression ratio. The J heads, with their larger volume, would make the situation worse. It can be helped with 67-72 stock pistons. These were flat tops with 4 valve reliefs on them. They also had the highest deck height of the 318...
