Most any A body rear will swap. watch for proper bolt pattern so you don't have to change wheels. And if you may need a different length driveshaft and shock plates and U bolts.. All depends on what you have now and what you find.

If you manage to figure out a wheel/tire combo with the right backspace to make it work, you're golden. I hope you don't like the deep dish wheel look...

In an 8.75, it's pretty easy to swap one 'chunk' for another. If you're looking at swapping ring and pinion on the existing setup, it gets involved (doable but not worth it in my opinion).

What Del said. keep all angles equal and opposite, that way the crank/transfer case shaft/pinions stay parallel. small angles you can get away with. larger angles beg for a CV joint to minimize vibration. CV drivelines can get pricey. with 12 degrees over such a short distance, check for...

That looks a bit extreme to me. Normal to find some amount of 'metallic' stuf as new stuff breaks in, but that don't look good.. you might have some rubber ducking going on. I'm sure someone more experienced than me can give you an idea exactly what is ducked..

Either case is ok. 489 has a stronger pinion. Just look for 'clutch' mechanism vs just spider gears to know if it's sure grip. For general street/driver use, I've had good luck with Yukon gears. Read up a little, rear ends are pretty straightforwad..

I find that it is really easy with a dremel and disc to grove the collar and the 'inside' part of the bearing. Then an easy whack with the chisel and they're off...
