1971 demon tire sizes for 15” wheels

255/70R15? that's like 29 inch diameter a bit too big. 28 inches is what I would consider max. 215/70R15 in almost 27 inches. You do not want to exceed 26 inches diameter in the front. So the sizes I've used before on 15 inch rims that worked with good effect are: 255/60R15 in the rear (27 inch...

    17" versus 14" tires

While not exactly running 225/45R17 in the front of my Duster. I am running a little taller 225/50R17's with hardly any rubbing on a 17X7 front tire with 4.25 inch backspace. (for now, I do plan on putting 245/45R17's with 17X8's in the front in the near future). Also note that in this picture...

    Need help with backspacing

For the fronts I think you're safe with a backspace of 5.25-5.5. The max backspace for the rears is 4.5" I have a duster but I think the rules for backspace still applies. But as for tire size etc. The duster/dart sport/demons have a bit more leeway. For example I'm using 17's (I know you're...

    7" wide wheels 4" bs? 6" with 4"bs?

Currently an 8 1/4 with 3.21 gears. I have an 8 3/4 with 3.55 gears that I'm going to put in eventually to better handle the 408 stroker.

    7" wide wheels 4" bs? 6" with 4"bs?

Nice! 17x6 with 4" BS should be good to go. This is currently with 17x7 with 4.25" BS in the front and the rears are the same as what your planning 17x8 / 4.5 BS. Tires currently are: Front 225/50R17 & Rear 255/50R17.

    7" wide wheels 4" bs? 6" with 4"bs?

Agree to a point. But as for front suspensions it will be pretty much the same on all 73+ disc brake cars. The only exception is that the Dodge Darts and Dart Sports may have slightly less fender issues due to the fender openings being swept out.

    7" wide wheels 4" bs? 6" with 4"bs?

This is an older pic. 1974 with disc brakes. but this is with 15X7 with 4.25" BS in the front. The Tire was a 215/60R15. No rubbing. This is with winter tires. The rim is 15X7 with 4 in. BS. The tire is 205/65R15. It rubbed horribly with anything wider than that. I now use 17 inch rims...

    Tires

Bonus is Cooper and Hankook are cheaper. Plus Cooper is still an all American tire company. BFG is owned by the French Michelin company. Hankook is S. Korean and will I buy them before BFG.

    Tires

If you're wanting white lettered 15 inch radials have you looked at Cooper Cobra's? When I used 15 inch tires (now using 17 inch) I liked Cooper's more than BFG's. I also used Mastercraft in the past as well, they were ok but have poor tread life. Then there's Mickey Thompson's (Both Mastercraft...

    15" tires

Still a bit out there for 15 inch tires. However the selection is "limited" For example looking to get 255/60R15 tires? You got maybe 4-5 selections for street radials... That's it. Cooper. BFGoodrich. Hankook. Mickey Thompsons. Mastercraft. Not the greatest selections, I Like the Cooper Cobras...

    74 duster backspacing

Sure looks like an 8.25. 255/60R15 with 15X8 definitely fits in the back quite nicely. 4 inch backspace works, these dusters/ demons / dart sports have alot of room in the rear well. Here's my old pic with 255/60R15 on 15X8 Visions with 4 inch backspace. The fronts had 215/60R15 with 15X7 & 4.25...

17” wheel specs help for demon

I know this question is over a year old and you may have an answer already. I saw that you were last on 2 months ago. So here goes. Since your Demon has pretty much the same rear wheel well clearance as my duster... I currently have 17X8's with 4.5 inch backspace on the rear. I put on 255/50R17...

    255 50 17s on a Dart Sport/Duster

I have 225/50R17 on the front with 17x7 with 4.25 inch backspace. Front-end suspension is mostly aftermarket with QA tubular K-member, UCA's and Tierods. With PST torsion bars and reinforced stock LCA's with a QA1 sway-bar. And 255/50R17 on the rear with 17x8 with 4.5 inch backspace. All stock...

    1973 scamp front tire size.

4.25 is about the max you can go in the front with these Later A-bodies. I have 15X7 Vision AM Legend with 4.25 BS on the front of my duster with 215/60R15 tires. No rubbing. I have 15X8 with 3.75 BS and with 245/60R15 on the back I can go bigger with 255/60R15 with no issues as well. Vision...

    Tall front tire

Yes, this is on my 74 duster. Again these are 215/60R15 tires on 15X7 with 4.25" backspace:

    Tall front tire

The tallest front I've put on are 215/65R15 which are almost exactly 26 inches diameter. With 4.25 inch backspace 15X7's. There was a slight tick of rubbing. I've used 205/65R15 with good success. (25.5" diameter) I currently been using 215/60R15 (25.2" diameter) last few times. With my front...

    Made in USA?

Cooper and Goodyear are still American Companies... FWIW BFGoodrich is now owned by the French Michelin company. "A majority of the tires Cooper sells to our market are American made. Goodyear is the only other remaining American tire brand (which includes Kelly Springfield, which is owned by...

    Ever see these wheels before?

Some of them have 5 lugs for Renault (which owned part of AMC in the 70's to early 80's) But the bigger question is he has the uni-lug bolt pattern on his. So this little oddity is pretty unique I have to say, he's likely the only A body to have a set, kinda cool and unique. But oh well, I say...

    Ever see these wheels before?

Its coming up as M.A.G industries wheels in google. *Edit* Ehh, maybe... I count on these 8 slots vs. 6 slots on his. I think we're getting close.

Nope, nothing. Just junk. You should give them to me so I can get rid of it for you. :coffee2:

    Tire Time

According to this that's more reason to buy the Cooper's as they're cheaper... About an average of $35-$40 cheaper per tire. If I'm getting the same thing for cheaper why complain? I'm certainly not. I heard BFG selling molds to Coker, never heard them selling it to Cooper... I'll have to...

    Tire Time

Nice Lookin Valiant! Yes Dusters (and Demon/Dart Sports) can fit a 28 inch tire, BUT you have to pay attention to the backspacing. For example my rear 8 inch wide rims have 3.75 inch backspace. If I decided to install a 275/60R15 tire it will rub on the inner portion of the rear quarters...

    Tire Time

Well what's your rear gear ratio? I've used both sizes. The 245/60R15 (26.5 inch diameter) Mastercraft's I had were decent at the time I had it (I had 3.21 rears) My only complaint is that they didn't last that long (BFG was slightly better) I now have 255/60R15 (27 inch diameter) Cooper...

New Wheels Finally Showed Up - Torq Thrusts 72 Duster

Ya know 17's if done right look pretty good on these cars. Yours look real good. Please don't do the "bling" 20+ rims, they look derpy. I saw a 1971 impala with 24's the other day, I just about puked coffee out of my nose when I saw it.
  26. Cuprum-74

    That modern look....

17 inch is about the biggest I'll go to. Tires that size are affordable and there is a huge selection of sizes. I accept 18's but it only depends on the style, I don't like most. That said I still prefer 15 inch but only by a slight margin over the 17's. Never been and never will be a fan of...
