Installation of TTI headers advice request

While not all encompassing, this is what I went through with my 4 spd. small block with a Lakewood scatter shield. If I did it again, I would use a Quick Time Engineering bell housing.... http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=65442 BTW: In the tool bar on this page there is a...

    Edelbrock rpm head question

I agree on having the heads looked over. I punched out 3 rockers with the pushrods on cyl#1 when I was breaking in (no pun intended...) my engine. Although after a few hundred miles all is good for now. If I ever have to open up the engine I'll have them ported.

    Edelbrock heads

If you go with the Edelbrock heads, open them up and check the guides. I installed a set of Eddy's on my engine 2 yrs. ago and I woofed THREE sets of rockers (stock, stamped steel...) by punching the push rods through the tips. I was putting off popping the heads off and have been taking it...

    Timing Gear Drive

Not for nuthin, but..... Do you REALLY want to "save money" on an un-necessary, inexpensive gear drive in a critical part of your engine? Do YOU want to be the one who posts " Ya know that $100 gear drive I installed? Damn crank gear stripped off and I bent 8 valves and cracked 6 guides. Now I...

    Valve Cover recommendation

I have an extra set of sheet metal valve covers. My buddy bought them when I got mine and has changed his mind. They are brand new w/hardware for installation. You decide where to cut them for breathers and PCV. I have a set on my car and they've been leak-free from day one. PM me as...

Oil pump hits new ARP main bolts

Here's what I did, which is exactly what Raymond suggested: I had my machinist spot-face the rear main cap and use a shorter stud with a 12 pt. ARP nut, which is smaller in diameter. Now it clears....

    Blew it up... GRRRRR!!!!!

BTW: I forgot to mention this.... both pushrods were slightly bent. That's why I'm inclined to agree with Moper. Great advice I don't want to do.... but it has to be done. Thanks again!

I'm trying.... I'm trying.... 8) I'll get this car sorted out one of these days. Thanks again for some good advice!

    Blew it up... GRRRRR!!!!!

This has to be the best reason I've heard so far. And I'll tell you why..... Last night I replaced the two offending rockers and pushrods with another pair of used pieces so I could check the oil pressure. I removed the oil sending unit and screwed in a brand new Snap On oil presuure gauge I...

Ok, this is news to me. What do I have to do to "correct" my new Edelbrock heads? Everyone else just bolts the damn things on....

    Blew it up... GRRRRR!!!!!

Is this what I should be looking for, and will they "bolt-on" to my combination without having to mill the rocker arm mounts or shim them? http://summitracing.com/parts/CCA-1322-16/

    Blew it up... GRRRRR!!!!!

I had issues with the Crane Gold Roller Rockers. They were rolling out to the edge of the valve stem. I swapped in the stock rockers & pushrods and all was well.... until I punched a hole in #1 cylinder exhaust rocker a few months ago. Yesterday I punched out BOTH rockers on cylinder #1. All the...

    Blew it up... GRRRRR!!!!!

Yeah, it's just another chapter in my epic adventure with this car. I'm fed up with the valve train in this car. I had originally set it up with Crane rollers that gave me grief as far as contact with the valve stem. I went with the stockers as a "temporary" solution. I have *maybe* 300 miles on...

    Blew it up... GRRRRR!!!!!

They were used pieces..... and I was, ummmm.... "flexing" some muscle the past 2 days. I guess I earned it. I just hope there isn't any more damage.

    Blew it up... GRRRRR!!!!!

I think I was better off having it go *BOOM* a half a mile from my house as opposed to in the middle of a bridge going to Ct. I'm OK.... Just sedating myself as we speak.

    Blew it up... GRRRRR!!!!!

It started running crappy for about 10 minutes. I was headed home when all of a sudden, while cruising at maybe 2,500 RPM, it went went *Clank-Clank-Clank* and ran like a sack of ****. I managed to get off the main road and onto a side street where the noise went away, but it had no power. I had...

    Blew it up... GRRRRR!!!!!

Well, maybe not totally blown up, but I shoved 2 pushrods through the rocker arms this afternoon. Cylinder #1.... I'll probably pull the intake to make sure there's no further damage to the lifters. I punctured #1 cylinder exhaust rocker when I first got her running. I wonder why cylinder # 1...

    Gear drive timing set

I was just passing on here-say. Having solid examples of why they DO work, and not hurt, an engine is appreciated. Truth be known, I almost bought a gear drive for my car until I realized it was just for the "WOW" factor and not really needed. Good points Mark, thank you. :thumrigh:

    Gear drive timing set

I've heard it's not a good idea to use gear drives on street engines. Something about the gears applying too much pressure against the front main bearing and possibly wiping it out. But if I were to go with a gear drive, I'd spend the 3 bills and go with the Milodon set-up too. I wouldn't...

    ARP Bolt Kits

That rear main stud area needs to be massaged some..... I relief-cut the cap and used a shorter stud. It does get tight in there.... This problem is expected when using their studs. I didn't know there was clearance issue's with their bolts too.... I wonder what's up with that?

    ARP Bolt Kits

I had a BAD experience with the ARP small block fastener kit I bought. It looked like it was half Mopar, and half.... I don't know. Chevy? Ford? Nash? I had to make plenty of trips to my well stocked neighborhood Sears to buy (again...) all the mis-matched crap ARP sent me. Fortunately they...

    Roller Rockers Geometry

Now that the in-fighting has subsided..... The geometry looks similar to what I had with my Crane rollers. You either need to shim the rockers up (and have pushrods made...), or just bolt in a set of stock lifters and pushrods and go enjoy the car.

eddy heads and what rockers to use?

I might be the isolated example here, but I tried to run Crane rollers on my Eddy's and the contact pattern on the valve stem was almost to the edge of the valve! I would have had to shim the rockers and possibly use lash caps. Not to mention buy ANOTHER set of custom pushrods. The block wasn't...

    ARP bolt question

If your going with studs you MUST line-bore your block. Stock replacement-type bolts go right in, and yes, ARP has windage tray applications. http://arpfasteners.com/catalog/catalog.html

    broke valve cover bolt

I agree with the awl advice. Try and walk it out using an awl (or small, pointed punch...) and SLOWLY walk it around with a LIGHT hammer. Between the fact that it's a small bolt and not deep you *should* be OK. Worst comes to worst, center-punch it dead center and drill with the left handed bit...

Why To Never Buy Chinese Sh*t

I won't even buy an EGG ROLL because I don't know what's in it.... Chinese aluminum rockers? Nope.... BTW: Dave, you interested in a set of Crane 1.5 roller rockers? I doubt I'm going to re-install them. PM me... 8)

    340 w/360 heads, 6 pack & air cleaner help

Ok... here's a few thoughts. DON'T cut down your intake! I forget who did it, but they reported that torque fell off big time. It will all fit under your hood without hacking, provided you use the stock air cleaner. As for those ribbed air cleaners, forget them unless you want a hole in your...
