Rustoleum makes a spray zinc coating and it works great have used it on numerous things over the last 20+ years. I would then brush on rustoleum in the color of your choice

Not a fan of flat as a permanent finish , and I'll be glad when the rat rod faze has run it's course. Almost as bad as the graphics faze of the 80's
