Did the 340 really make 275hp?

Yeah they under rated a lot of engine specs in that era to keep the insurance companies out of consumers pockets. However, I've read many articles that have found the stock 340 (`68-'71) to produce right around 275-290 hp. In this case it sounds like Chrysler was not trying to dupe the insurance...

    Best Valve Cover Gaskets?

I bought a set at Napa that are a hard cork/rubber composite and can be used repeatedly. Naturally they were a little more expensive but well worth it.

fan shroud part numbers 340 ??? have a fit issue

Yeah when that happens to me I clear my head and move on to something else. There's never a shortage of other projects to tackle. I'll revisit it another day when my patience will handle it.

fan shroud part numbers 340 ??? have a fit issue

I looked up that number in one of my books and from what I can find your shroud part# 2785312 is a (one year only) 67 big block fan shroud. The 68 fan shroud for a 340 should be a 2785614. There must be a slight difference in the two. You can sell the one you have (it will probably bring good...

fan shroud part numbers 340 ??? have a fit issue

Is that a big block shroud? The small block shroud is available aftermarket and should work as long as the water pump entrance is on the factory side. I've seen people have trouble trying to install a 67-69 shroud on a car where the waterpump has been reversed. What do you have exactly?

Help, with a friends 67 Cuda 340 issue

When I read that he is still running points I thought how about changing the condenser? A good electronic ignition would eliminate a lot of problems there. Also a 600 cfm carb with a Torker intake? That just seems like a mismatch anyway, even if it has nothing to do with this particular problem...

Moisture in the tank? Sitting all winter gas can go bad and moisture can form in the tank. Do you use any fuel stabilizer?

    Orange or chrome box troubles

I've never had a problem swapping the two out. Perhaps something is cast wrong? Do you have a spare harness or a friend with a Chrysler system where you can try the boxes on another car?

Why is my intake killing my vac hose?

If you were going to move the distributor drive shaft you must first get the engine around to a point where no.1 cylinder is on the compression stroke at TDC. Only then can you install the drive shaft so that the slot in it, points to the first intake bolt on the drivers side. I agree with the...

whats the name of the red on my 68 340 needs a freshn up

That's a cool story. I've noticed the Chrysler red paint tends to "orange" after several heat cycles. The International paint may also be better at staying true to color.

whats the name of the red on my 68 340 needs a freshn up

Most places like Mancini and Summit sell the spray cans of engine paint in a variety of colors including the red you'll need.

340 valve train noise clacking loudly

340 valve train noise clacking loudly

I know this might sound too easy to overlook but could the rocker shafts be on backwards or upside-down? Comp Cams do have steep ramps on many of their cams which will make the valves closing noisy. Could a rocker be hitting the valve cover? Or with oversize springs, perhaps a valve spring...

What color should my 69 340 be?

I`ve read that there have been three colors found on 69 blocks. Most 69 340s (probably about 99%) are turquoise but it has been found that some very early builds are red ( leftover 68 paint). It seems that there are also some very late 69 builds that may have received an orange paint job (the...

340 ta block whats it worth

This is what I was thinking. If the matching car is out there and the owner wants to make it "right" then they`ll do whatever it takes to make it happen. Price is usually commensurate with need in cases like this. I would definitely see if the car that the block came from is still out there.

    68 340/68 valiant ?

That sounds like a good street combo, the cam is like a street hemi grind and the torque converter is not radical. Unless you plan to do a lot of street light to street light action I would keep the 3.55, it`s enough to get you going but not so much gear you can`t go out of town. Although I...

    avs air fuel adjustment screw

My Dart was running like crap and I finally took it to a carb guru. He ended up drilling out the lead and backing out the idle mixture screws. That carb design was the beginning of emission controls. Check out this thread; especially page two, I had an issue with those idle mixture screws some...
