I went through this just recently but from 4speed to auto. Finally got it figured out. On my diagram for standard trans the wiires are at bulk head at the wiper switch area.I will see if i can scan it and post it for you.....

Im sure its the same but not 100% I have a ballast resistor hooked up now thats the same im using for ignition. Not the same rectangular style , i just made a brkt to hold it on.All works.

Thanks Karl. That seems to be logical. Problem is the harness i have has 4 wires only going to bulk head. I found the wires of the inner bulk head bad and corroded. So i re wired all wires from motor by passing bulk head and re connected them to the appropiate wires inside. This did not solve...
