Throttle cable not opening carb fully

change the location of where the cable attaches to the carburetor. If cable attachment is too far away from the throttle shaft, the ratio of pedal travel to carburetor opening will not be equal. [closer to the shaft, faster ratio, more opening travel] Its worth a try!

    Timing marks.

I removed all the extra numbers on the timing chain cover to eliminate any confusion! Leave "0" and sand off the rest. Problem solved...read the damper as related to the "0" mark on the TC cover. As stated, make sure TDC is true TDC! Using a paint pen also helps set timing, and end the...

    Head gasket getting oval?

are these the fel pro 1008? they are the bare minimum... I agree use the MLS gaskets, with studs and the problems should go away...unless detonation is lurking... timing should be no more the 34 total.

    rocker shaft studs

fine threads would be the right way to go. If you check ARP, they may have the studs you need in stock. You may want to call also and inquire w/the tech line if you do not find what you what on line. They can help you.

    troubleshooting oil pressure

great pix of the plugs. That is great help! The rocker shafts are not upside down are they? It is not a roller cam??? check the oil leakage with the intake off and rotating the engine, looking @ the lifter bores [bottom side when possible] Please post your findings/fix!

lifter oil galley lifter help needed

I had the same problem. Another option would be to block the oil at the #1main feed leading to the drive side of the lifter galley. Under the # 1 main bearing saddle are three holes, drill and tap the one hole which leads to the lifter galley on the driver side (odd cylinders) (1/8" pipe...

I really need some advice here

Agree, build the 360. The 308 casting cyl. heads work well. Some port work, cleaning and maybe mill them some...A good goal would be 9.8 to 10.0 for street/iron heads. Not sure you need larger intake valves. If you only street drive this, you may see a more driveable combination with the...

    Camshaft end play?

Did you check the end play with the cam thrust plate installed and with the cam gear on the cam and tight? The cam will tend to move rearward when the engine is running. This is known as a rearward thrust cam. In other words, cam end play should be minimal [.009 to .015] or so. But must be...

    Figuring out Cam Lift

Dial indicator on the push rod end of the rocker. Multiply this by rocker arm ratio..usually 1.5:1 depending on the quality of the rocker arm. This method will be "close" but not as accurate as the dial indicator on the cam lobe itself. This will not help you with duration unless you have a...

Anyone using BRODIX B1 BA HEADS

I've been using the BA heads for over 10 years now in my 65. They work very well but do need work to flow. Currently my heads are being worked on...I will know the ### before long, but I can tell you they went into the "shop" flowing over 300 cfm. Now to the headers, a friend of mine, very...

New carb, super rich at idle, idle speed high, fuel dripping from boosters...

Maybe the stupid power valve is blown or the gasket is not sealing good enough. Therefore you will have to "up" the idle screw, which opens the throttle blades which "pulls" air past the venturi's which pulls fuel out of the boosters!!! all negatives!!! How long before the plugs are black as...

I have posted two sets of pistons. 4.100 bore/4" stroke. In the engine mechanical portion of this web site. A quick info: Venolia, .200 dome, for stock rod length and pin dia. Gas ported and never hurt, just going a different direction. [stock deck height as well] $350.00 with old rings on...

    what oil pan to use????

I have a 71 Demon small block and the Milodon pan fitted with Hooker Super Comp. headers. Milodon got smart and "notched" the oil pan on the back corner to accomidate the header problems associated w/deep pans. But you may have to notch the K-Member...

    setting points and timeing

If you have a dwell meter, set the dwell to 30 to 34 degrees. If you do not, use the thickness gauges and set to .016 to .018 as mentioned above. Remember to lube the breaker cam so the rubbing block does not wear out! As far as timing is concerned, TDC is probably spec. but 10 degrees may work...

    Pushrod length

Take a stock push rod and cut it in half [or a convienent place] and thread it to 1/4 X 20 or 10/32 or what ever. place some all thread in the middle of it and "adjust" the push rod to the desired length! Then using a dial caliper measure the over all length and bingo! Do not forget to spec...

    Smallblock Heads?

There are many quality sb mopar heads out there "finally" I have used the Brodix B1 BA heads for many years with no problems, I mean no problems with seats moving, guides wearing out and no warpage! These heads are on my R-3 block 4" stroke sb. I've been using a roller cam for about 5 years...

    318 what do you recommend...

you may want to check into a nice header/exhaust system. this is alway a problem on the early "A" cars. this alone will limit how much engine power will be made.

    Camshaft Instalation

the camshaft is rearward thrusting, in other words, when moving [driven by the cam gear & timing chain, the cam will take a rearward movement] thus, the cam gear/thrust plate will control camshaft movement.

Set up for 360/380 magnum crate engine

If you are looking for street fun, the 650 double pumper will be fine, however I would like to see a 750 vacuum secondary on this combination for the best power possible. The 727 will work with the manual valve body, but why? Are you going to race or street the car? Your shifter (stock) will...
