What gear to run with cam

My cam is a Bullet Special Order Billet. The manufacturer recommended a bronze gear which is a high wear item. I've been advised that bronze gears should be regularly checked for wear and changed at 10,000 mile intervals. Crane Cams sells a composite, steel coated gear that is much more...

    Help Identify This 340

If you are unable to do a complete rebuild of the 340 right now, put in a corner until you are able to. IMO, there are way to many unknowns to just replace the bearings. If your 318 is a good runner, go with it until you have the time/resources to do the 340 up right. Also, to settle the...

    Help Identify This 340

If those X-heads are original, it should be a 68, 69 or(maybe) 70. I hope you are not planning on dropping that in as is. Soft plugs not looking so good.

lifter oil galley lifter help needed

The Crane Gear # is CRN 69970-1 Small block coated steel distributor gear fits .484 shaft. This gear comes without a shaft. I had to buy a bronze gear and shaft from Hugh's Engines, their part # HUG 6204. They removed the bronze gear and reinstalled the Crane gear on the Hugh's shaft...

    Rockers question

I'll look at those on e-bay. When I purchased the rockers from Summit, their rep was able to match a set of Crane pushrods to my setup. I am guessing you will be using stock length rods only with a stock type ball on the lifter end and the cup on the rocker end. Summit will fix you up....... Russ

    Rockers question

I used a set of this type of rocker on a 360 some years ago. They worked fine for many years with the stock rocker shafts. You will need a set of push rods with a cup on one end to mate up to the ball end of the rocker stud. Russ

    Eddy float question

If your floats are properly adjusted to Edelbrocks specs, look somewhere else for your problem. Maybe the accelerator pump or a timing/distributor issue.

Max lift on stock guides and seals?

I bent all 16 pushrods due to coil bind on a 79 360. The cam lift was 480 advertized with 1.5 rockers. It's been a while ago. I don't remember the heads casting numbers but they were originals to the 79 Engine. Moral of the story, don't take anything for granted with Chrysler engines...

    408 Question

You know........This pisses me off. We all buy things anticipating having our projects completed in a relatively short period of time. Almost always, things take twice as long as originally planed. We always buy parts that end up not being installed right away and sit on a shelf in the garage...

    What Carb

I had a similar built 360 but with headers, I ran an Edelbrock 1406/Electric choke on it. Once dialed in, it had a nice balance of power and economy. It performed trouble free for years. The 1406 would be my choice. Good Luck, Russ

    All cylinders filling with water

Yep, That's what they call water inversion and it can be ugly.
  17. Russ H

    All cylinders filling with water

Yes, this can happen anytime water enters a cylinder on an intake stroke. Water, like oil will not compress. Something else has to. Bearings will crush, connecting rods will twist or pistons will break.

    All cylinders filling with water

Getting serious again, I have been following this thread from its beginning. If it were mine, I would be very concerned about the connecting rods and bearings with that much water in the cylinders. Water does not compress so something else has to. I have seen marine engines with connecting...

    All cylinders filling with water

I was thinking the same thing. I know from experience with power boats, a cylinder even partially full of water will do irreparable damage on a compression stroke. I can't imagine what the internals would look like with water in all 8. Good luck. Russ

    The Right Valve Covers

I seem to recall someone (maybe on Moparts) was selling laser cut valve cover spacers. You would run a gasket between the spacer and the head and another one between the spacer and valve cover gaining about a 1/2 inch of clearance. Russ

an urgent what's it worth thread 70 340 block and...

If this is so, why would a 69 block be a xxxxxxxxx-6 and a 70 be a xxxxxxxxx-1. I have seen this many times with 340 casting numbers. What I don't understand is why would revision 6 come 2 years before revision 1.

    Ugh, another broken mount. Poly-Locs?

Another thing to consider....From looking at the pictures, it appears that your header outlet is awful close to your motor mount. As we all know, rubber and extreme heat do not play well together.

Can I get away with stock 318 exhaust manifolds on Magnum crate engine?

Depending on the year and type of your 318 manifolds, they may not cover the larger exhaust ports on the 360 engine. Russ
