    High Compression 390

Thanks for informing me on the 390. The car in my picture is my after racing car/engine. It is 10:1 410 with aluminum W2 heads. I too was concerned about compression. I live at 4000' and have no ping problems. I run 3.23's with a 28" tire. Your truck should be a torque monster. My cam is an...

    High Compression 390

I must be just a dumb old man . What is a 390? I know 360, 383 and the stroked versions. Is this a gen3 version?

ARP main bolts oil pump clearance

Like 70 aarcuda, I just used a bolt. I've taken a trip from Cason City to Vegas and raced my 410 at Vegas. Had no oiling problems. Unless you have a 600+ HP motor, I wouldn't waste my time fitting a nut to the stud.

    Action Plus, 360, or...?

The action plus is the only one with the proper bolt configuration for a roller motor heads. LA style are perpendicular to the head while the later style are verticle. You would have to drill the intake for LA heads to fit.

Double plumper carb or stay with Vac sec carb?

Use a QF adjustable vacuum on the secondaries. You can make it just about the same as a double pumper with much better street manners. Although I have a DP on my 410", if I had to do it again, I would go with a QF vac secondaries.

    Rhoads lifters

Mine work great. I use them to get more bottom end torque and not lose top end power. They are noisy on a cam like mine (232/237@ .050, .520 lift). I run 3.23 gears and it runs 12.30's @ Vegas. I haven't run at sea level but, comparing mine to 70aarcuda's times, it should run near 12.10 at...

    Super victor clean up

I would definitely put a 4 hole spacer on it. Four hole spacers straighten out the air flow. From my experience, open spacers only help at very high RPM. I have 2 open spacer that I will give you one for shipping plus $5

Which of these cams would be better 416ci

I have a 410 in my Barracuda. 232/237@ .050 , 520 lift. At Vegas it ran 12.34 and 108 with 3.23 gears and full exhaust. I shifted @ 6000. It gets 15 MPG on the road, nice loppy idle and great street manners. Does that sound like to Small a cam? NO scoop, that was when I only raced it .

Which of these cams would be better 416ci

The rule is for street car, aleay use the smaller cam. Much better drivability and NO noticable gain without gears and stall converter

MY race 360 would see 7000 in first when i was slow to shiftand 6800 in he lights.

Do I need a hardened intermediate shaft for a HV oil pump?

I bought a blue printed HV pump years ago. It get pressure very quickly when starting. One of the best investments that I've made.

    edelbrock carburetor flooding like crazy....

First take a hammer and tap on the sides iof the carb where the fuiel goes in. If a needle vale is stuck it should stop the flooding. if not, since the problem is new, the needle valves are not sealing or a float has leaked gas into it. Buy a rebuild kit which will have all the parts except a...

Wiped a Cam Lobe. Total rebuild??

I guess I'm just lucky. Put in a used cam that didn't have the lifters marked. A lobe went flat. I cleaned out the pan, changed the oil and had no problems with that race motor. It was many years ago so I think that ignorance was bliss. I would never do that again

    408 timing

I run 18 degees initial and 37 total. That 's probably too much for sea level as I live at 4000'. You will probably need only 35 total. Full advance by 2800

    Erson Cams Quality Discussion

I bought an Erson hydraulic cam for my 410 SB. I was told it would work great with my 3.23 gears. They gound it 4 degrees advanced with 104 lobe centers. 232/237 @ .050 and .520 lift. It works great. They are in Mound House, NV near Carson City. I'll check and see if they are still at that location.

Vacuum gauge inside of your car?

I can't imagine not having a good set of dash gauges. Vacuum gauge is on the left where the steering wheel covers it in the pic. The one I especially love isn an Innovate LM-1 A/F in the center.

    X-heads vs J-heads: what's the difference??

Many of the 1.88 intake J heads tended to be porous. Hughes won't do anything except a stage one port on a J head. I ported my Jheads backi in the late nineties abd has to replace one of the heads because of pourocity in the intake. The only cast iron head I would buy is an aftermarket but, I...

    Hughes rocker arm pedestal shims

Shims under the rocker shaft are to get the rocker pad centered on the valve stem. Getting the correct length pushrod solves the adjuster stud problem. Spend the time to get the rocker centered on the valve stem. Put some grease on the valve stem and crank the engine. The mark on the valve...

What to do with my 360

I have built a low 11 sec 360 and my buddy has built several high 10 second 360 motors with KB hypereutectic pistons. My current ride is a street 410" SB that runs low 12's with a 2500 stall converter and 3.23's. Don't waste money on a roller unless you are planning on a late model 360. Here...

    Need 273 Steel Head Gasket

Don't reuse a head gasket that been on for a while. I have reused a gasket because I made a boo boo in assembly but not with mileage or high compression. Is it worth the risk to save $23? .005 thickness will not be noticable in performance and hot spots are not an issue with a 9:1 motor

    My porting was too aggressive!

I ported a set of J heads. Had to find another head as I went into the water jacket raising an exhaust port. The heads worked OK. I ran 11.08 and 119.81 in my 67 Barracuda. I had to put in 2.055 and 1.625 valves after a couple of seasons. The verdict from a racer at the machine shop is that they...

Can worked J heads ever flow as well as the Edelbrocks?

J heads have had problem with being porous. I did my own and had to get a new head because oneleaked into the water jacket. Hughes won't do other than mild bowl work and polishing because of that issue on J's

    Eddies Vs 915 J's

Don't over build a 318. Without more compresion the difference will be little. I put a bigger cam in a 9:1 motor and gained .1 at the strip. It would work OK on the street but bog at the sript with the extra bite.

    #302 or #308 heads?

302 with the bigger valves and some bowl work will be great stop light heads. I put 360 heads on my .030 over 318 and the problem was it didn't leave very hard due to the open chanbers lowering the compression and making my cam too big. I ran 13.80's at Bakersfield in good weather and 14.00's in...
