Ive gone from a 7290 yoke to a 7260. The 7260 has no straps, can I use the 7290 straps?? They don't seem to want to fit as the cap diameter is different. No identification on the 7290 straps other than a number "4" stamped in them.

Yes, they are two very different castings. The rough casting has the diamond with the circle around it and the letters AAPW. The other has very clear numbers, and only a diamond with no circle. It has a ring gear with a 69 date so what appears to be a 344 date has me confused.

That would be my guess also, but not sure. That flies in the face of the theory that the 3.23 open is original to my 71. Any guess at the different castings? The one looks nice and crisp and the other looks really rough.

That's where I was headed. I thought the comb determined the switch. I don't know how to identify either style, and also thought the comb was part of the valve body. The transmissions I've had built, I just made sure I told the builder the style of switch I needed depending on the year of the car.

If i would have paid closer attention with your first post, you said you just rebuilt and reinstalled. That would eliminate my guess of the splines not matching.

Anyone run a hurst quarter stick or any other after market shifter with a bench seat? My fear is it will be to much of a reach, and probably lose the adjustability of the seat. Maybe a custom bracket would raise the shifter and help, but i guess id like to know what im up against here.
