Weld the upper ball joint in ?

I don't tack weld them, but I do use red Loctite and I take a punch and peen them in 3 places.

Cheapest way to get an inch or 2...

Anybody remember "Mopar Shock Extensions"? In the 70's when the stnk-bug look was popular, Gabriel High Jackers (air shocks) were the hot set up to clear your L60x15 Super Wide Brute Speedway Specials, but they often caused the upper shock mounts on Mopars to break loos from the unibody and...

    Upper Control Arm suggestions

I have Magnum Force on my Duster for 4 years now and am very happy with them.

    Steering column too short

Are you sure that it's a manual column? Is it collapsed? There are 2 small plastic pins between the inner and outer jackets that are designed to break on impact allowing the column to collapse a few inches. If they are broken or missing, you will be able to telescope the column.

    Front wheel bearings, any favorites?

Like they said, nothing but Timken! What's your life worth if a front wheel bearing fails at 115mph?

possible to make a late model A body handle like its on rails?

Only 1 thing that I'd add to your recipe and that's sub-frame connectors, stiffens the foundation and makes everything else work together.

    1974 Duster Steering Response

Standard Mopar steering is known for a lack of road feel and being over-assisted, but a properly rebuilt box installed correctly is not that bad, especially with a smaller diameter steering wheel. The first thing that you should check is the the bolts that attach the box to the K member, make...

    70 steering column repair

Do you really need to worry about them at all. once the column is reassembled, adjusted to length and bolted in place, it's not going anywhere. If you do use nylon bolts, just cut them to length so they engage the inner shaft. you don't need them to go all the way through.

    poly vs. rubber for LCA

I used poly and hate it! Squeals and moans like a cheated hooker. Going back to rubber when I pull the engine.

Need help keeping up with C6 Z06 & Porsche GT3 on Road Course

Subscribing to the thread. Yes, his goal is lofty, maybe unreachable, but as long as this doesn't decend into a bunch of T-bar vs coilover bickering, some useful information might be generated.

    M-Body Steering Boxes?

Back in the day when I was a counterman at a Dodge dealership (early 80's) I compared the parts breakdown of a standard P/S box and the police unit. At that time all standard units available through the dealers were Reman and the police units were available new only. The only difference I could...

    Rear end flip

I agree with the other guys, but just wanted to add that, what we Jeepers call a "spring over" also creates all kinds of spring wrap (wheel hop) issues.

    lower control arms

B body arms won't work, but you should have no trouble welding tabs on the arms you have now. This would be a great time to box them too.

    Over-Axle Conversion?

Spring-over-axle conversions are common on Jeeps, especially YJ Wranglers and they create a whole host of issues to overcome. Since you're talking about a Duster, you won't have to deal with steering linkage or front end geometry, but you will have major problems with axle wrap and drive line...

    Can you identify these brackets?

Most engine brakets of this era have numbers stamped into them that may aid in identification. They are usually pretty faint and you will have to get them really clean or perhaps even strip the paint to read them.

    Lower Control Arm Bracing?

Bracing the lower control arms should be beneficial to any car in reducing deflection in the front suspension without affecting the ride or adding any significant weight, even a dedicated drag car might see an improvement. While it may be difficult to quantify the improvement, there's no...

Help All You Duster Guys !!!!!!

Like Burnt Orange said; flipping the spring hangers will bring it down about an inch, but you have a lot more parts to install before you can really judge the ride height. If you're going to drag race it at all, lowering blocks are not the way to go, think spring-wrap. Nice Duster, looks great!

Whats better Manual steering or Power?

It would seem that the major advantage of manual over power in a strip car would be less weight on the front end. Horsepower consumption; 3 hp seems more reasonable than 11, lacking any data, should only be an issue mainly for those restricted by narrow class rules. In addition, depending on...

    Drum brake spindles ?

No, they're different and considering the weak hardware (lower BJ bolts) used with the 9" stuff, I don't think I'd want to do a disc conversion using them.

Whats better Manual steering or Power?

I currently have P/S in my Duster and after repairing my recent problem with loose mounting bolts, I'm pretty happy with it. However, eventually I will switch to the Flaming River 16:1 manual box, for more header clearance, to save weight, improve feel and for simplicity. Several years ago, I...

    A Cautionary Tale

My Duster has been on the road for about 2 years and in that time the power steering has become increasingly vague and the car has developed quite a lot of bump-steer. When I put the car on the road the pitman and idler arms were new and the tie rods and ends were upgraded to the C-body type...

Viper Brakes and rebuilding the front end.

My Duster has reinforced LCAs and Magnum Force uppers with the heim ends. I am very happy with both. I also used adjustable strut rods and don't know if they are worth it, but I do appreciate the beef. I would definitely stay away from the aluminum ones unless your car is drag race only...
