    Stripping Questions

If $99. is too much, you can always get a 1lb slide hammer with a hook attachment, and go old school. Drill holes in the metal, and use the hook to grab it and pull it out. More precise than a pry bar, and better than cutting out the frame.

    Bumpers

At least with regard to Duster and Dart Sport, I think 72 and 73 bumpers ARE the same. Perhaps different slots for the bumper jack, but the shape of the blade is the same, and I believe the mounts are the same. I'm sure you could rig the front with some custom brackets, but it wouldn't follow...

Nope, Valiant and Duster screens are not the same.

    Interchangeable Duster body parts

I've got a '75 Valiant Brougham fender on my '73 Duster. Just had to weld up some extra trim holes.

how do i take off the fenders? 73 duster

Ahh, I forgot about that one! I think I got my little hands in through the hood hinge hole, but the splash guard is forward of that, so you can reach it from either side. Take note of the shims under there, too.

how do i take off the fenders? 73 duster

There are two nuts / studs at the bottom, in front of the rocker panel. There is also one bolt holding it against the filler panel under the grill, and a few behind the grill attaching it to the radiator support.

Should I just go ahead with a full repaint?

I'm really good about buying a product, THEN researching it to find out it wasn't good for the intended application. Thanks for the info!

Should I just go ahead with a full repaint?

If you weren't already planning to repaint the car, AND you intend to install a new vinyl top, then I would consider them two separate jobs. You can remove the top trim, and tape off the new top when repaint time comes. If you are replacing the top, I might consider using POR15 after totally...

    No, I'm not nuts...really!

Dartnut's answer is about the most open minded, yet factual response I could imagine. If you are spending time to prep this car right, I'd paint it with good product. I'm spending over $1k in materials and supplies to paint my '73. I just keep reminding myself that a new Challenger (most...

    Rally Mirror Location?

When I did mine, I made a paper template from the front of the door to the rearmost hole of the mounting on the driver side. It was the full width of that concave from the window scraper seal to the crease where the door goes horizontal. Then I flipped it 180 degrees, laid it out on the other...

    Holes in Duster Window

I used a "T" nut from a hardware store. A REAL hardware store, not Lowes, or HD. I think it was a touch too deep, and I shortened it on my bench grinder, and ran a tap through afterwards. NAPA might have something as well, but I didn't try there.

    Body Color Combo Question

Because green rules. With a black interior, anyway. I don't much care for the interior and exterior (and vinyl top, if equipped) to match regardless of color. Too plain. I was actually excited to want to see a pic of the white swinger with green interior, since I couldn't recall ever seeing that...

    Paint and stripes??

None of the above. But I must say I actually DO love Petty blue and red together. When he was sponsored by STP, it looked good, and still looks good today.

    $4,000.00 paint job

I'll bet Picasso didn't paint with a twig. This is going to be cool! BTW, I have filters - I don't recall the micron level (forgot the right term), but I'll check it out tonight.

    Paint color for Duster-Help

What color was it originally? I vote for orange between the two. It's probably my favorite of the "high impact" colors. Or Rally Green. Or Tor Red.

    Window rollers

Great thread, as I also need new rollers in my drivers door. Been kind of dealing with it. I'm going to check out the "Help" section first - never thought of that. I've been thinking of selling the MINI Cooper, and dailying my Duster come spring. But all those little things will drive me...

    Cheap paint

Hey there. My name comes from my favorite bike of all time, the Honda CB450 (had a '65). I've had plenty of other bikes, including two of the other "H" brand, but something about that DOHC upright twin appeals to me. I read somewhere that Todd's car was a '73 Duster, even though the amber front...

    Cheap paint

I do my share of rattle canning. I agree the convenience is worth a premium price (I'm not so savvy with sources). But I have to think that for doing an entire car, it would get expensive, and worth using a gun if you have an air supply. When I did my rally wheels, I mixed Rustoleum "Aluminium"...

Rattle can is NOT cheap. Rustoleum, as mentioned above, is pretty cheap. I get it for $7.00 a quart, and it goes a long way in my HVLP.

    Paint Question: Should I...

Paint it what you like best. You are going to enjoy it more, and that should offset any minor decrease in value. For what it's worth, I happen to REALLY like that gold color! My '67 Dart post was that color, but with gold interior. I never got around to it on mine, but I would match the...

    rust removal chemicals

I've read that red wine vinegar works (albeit slowly) for items immersed in a bath of it. I wonder if one could soak some towels, and maybe cover with a sheet of plastic to keep it from evaporating. Might not work for every application, but it sure is inexpensive.

Good question. I would wrap in newspaper, then wrap that in what they call "shrink wrap." that shipping plastic cling wrap.

Bumpers "To paint or not to paint" this is the question ?

I guess it depends on the direction one is going with his or her car. On a car such as the one in swisswill's avitar, painted bumpers might be the perfect touch. But on a stock appearing car, I feel it's a cheap way out, and would stick with the chrome.

Bumpers "To paint or not to paint" this is the question ?

If they are in particularly bad shape, paint can get you by until you can afford to rechrome. Whenever I see a street car with paint, I assume the owner is waiting on chrome funds. Kind of like driving the car in primer.
