    pinion bearing puller

You could always find someone local to you that has a puller and press and pay them a few bucks to do it for you. I have a shop and can justify the need for the clam shell style puller, it is not for everyone ,but worth the money if you are doing differentials.

    Tremec TKO transmission

I used an old Keisler perfect fit TKO kit and hopefully the Hurst kit is better as far as drive line angles . I had to modify their mount and raise the transmission up two inches . I bought a cheap digital inclometer to check angles. That would be my suggestion to check your angle of the trans...

    Bad vibration

Vibration could be from bad engine/trans mounts. Is the engine running smooth without any misfiring? A misfire at idle could be perceived as a vibration and smooth out while driving.

So common for those to leak. They do make a special tool to remove and install those externally without removing the valve body if it is leaking:

    8.75 3rd member Rebuild

Setting the backlash, Chrysler service manual wants you to torque one of the main cap bolts 85-90 lbs. on each cap. Then rotate both the adjusters in to get a .0005-.0015 " backlash. Backlash is measured with the dial indicator on the ring gear. You move the ring gear back and forth against...

Will I need a new Crush Sleeve?

I would just make sure the initial rotational torque reading in inch pounds is the same. That 210 number is quoted from a Chrysler factory service manual for a 489 diff.

Will I need a new Crush Sleeve?

FSM procedure is to check rotational force in inch pounds . Install new seal and using the recorded inch pound reading make sure pinion nut is at least 210 ft pounds and the rotational reading is the same with no more than 5 inch pounds more. If you exceed this a new crush sleeve must be used...

727 Big Block not engaging momentarily????

I would find it hard to believe a trans with a few thousand miles would have hardened seals. Just sounds like the converter is draining down and with no flow in park would cause a delay in engaging...

727 Big Block not engaging momentarily????

Could it be the converter draining down? Try letting it idle in neutral to get full flow before pulling into gear.

    1970 dart rear end noise

I would put it back together and see if your noise is gone. If your bearings are tight and not making noise they are ok. Those gaskets behind the plates are to keep out brake dust. Seen people silicone them before too, probably what they had available at the time. The bumpy feeling when...

help identify this transmission. Supposed to be A518

It is a 518 RH. You can see the kickdown or throttle pressure lever that makes it a hydraulic unit. Three wire plug provides power for the lock-up converter solenoid and for the overdrive solenoid.

    41TE minivan transmission question

You will need a scan tool capable of the quick learn function. It allows the module to relearn the clutch volume index. We use a snap-on scanner to do that. Any local auto shop near you should have a scan tool capable of that service, OEM scan tool not required.

    1970 dart rear end noise

I have seen exhaust systems rub the driveshaft turning in one direction , broken hanger etc. Or could have something in the brakes, backing plate rubbing the drums are common. Turning is causing the weight to shift and changing something to make the noise show up.

Where is my axle noise from?

Bearings can be such a pain to diagnose, the weight of the vehicle makes bearing noises show up that can't be reproduced on jack stands. I have the Chassis ears for bearing noises , they can be clipped on whatever area you want to check for a noise with the car on a test drive. Best tool I...

    41TE minivan transmission question

I would suggest a quick learn procedure done to relearn the cvi . Changing the fluid can change viscosity and cause shifting concerns. I have done quick learns on those trans and fixed shifting problems. Any good scan tool is capable of doing one.

    8 3/4 chunk noise

To check it out right , the whole thing needs to come apart. I just ran into a similar situation where I was told the sure grip worked great, when I tore it apart to check it I found a bolt twisted off and a couple more about to break. The old sure grips can be another problem if someone has...

    8 3/4 chunk noise

I have seen seals make a squeak noise even on running vehicles driven at low speeds, That may be the noise he is hearing. If it was mine , I wouldn't trust that seal and would want to check everything out while the yoke is off and the third member is out of the housing. Now is the time to do...

    8 3/4 chunk noise

There is four bearings total , I would take it apart and inspect the bearings and races make sure they look good. That way you know what you are working with . Put a new seal in it and make sure the preload and backlash is within specs.

    2004 Stratus Transmission slipping

I would recommend having a scan tool put on it and do a "Quick Learn" on it. I have done this on Chryslers with shifting problems and helped them out. It relearns the computer to shift correctly to the clutch packs as they wear down. I would have this done first and see how it shifts.
