depressing newbe question of the day

Check you motor mount on the driver side. I replaced mine because of the same symptoms. Have someone give it a 'little' and I mean a 'little' gas with it in gear and foot firmly on the brake. Look down and you may see the motor lift off the mount on the driver side. Let us know.

    New tranny gasket

That new gasket has a double line of neoprene built onto the rigid plastic. I just did my tranny fluid this spring and this gasket is perfect. No leaks at all. Don't use any sealer on it.

    Ram tranny problems

This may seem weird but another member had trouble with his Ram trans and it was 'fixed' by cleaning the battery terminals. Seems the computer doesn't like even momentary shortages of power. He cleaned his and the trans shifted properly.

    Finally changed 904 trans fluid

BTW it took exactly 7.8 liters of fluid to bring it up to the full mark when hot. That's counting a drained torque converter. Had to do a conversion from US quarts stated in the service manual.

    Finally changed 904 trans fluid

My thanks to those who told me to get the reusable trans pan gasket from the dealer. It was easy to install and seals perfectly. The old cork gasket was stuck to the pan only. The only thing at the bottom of the trans pan was a very thin film of gray stuff that you could wipe off with your...

    $#@# leaking trans pan.

Just bought the reusable gasket and a filter for a 904 a few days ago. Up here in Canada the 904 gasket # is 04295875-AC. Filter is the same for the 727 and 904 # 03515996. Up here the gasket was $17.20 and the filter was $10.35. Mike

    904 Trans oil change

Gonna change my trans oil this week 'cause it's supposed to rain and I will have the time. I've read on FABO some members say not to start the car with an empty torque converter so, how do you put fluid in the converter with the drain plug at the 6:00 position?

    Trans pan RTV or not

Thanks guys. I picked up the neoprene gasket this morning. I had an original trans filter still in the original paper envelope but bought a new one because they have now made the new ones about 1 1/2 inches longer. More filter area. Thanks again for the replies from you FABO members. Mike

    Trans pan RTV or not

Going to change my '68 318 auto trans fluid and filter some time this summer. Do I have to use a pan gasket or can I use just rtv sealant? If I don't have to use a gasket is there a clearance issue with the filter or something else in the trans? Thanks
