what size is the socket for the upper ball joint of a /6 1966 valiant

I believe I got a 1 59/64, or something close to that, from Summit for about $13. Slightly sloppy, but did the job...and did NOT cost $50 like the specialty sockets

So...at my first opportunity I will take pics....they are the same UCA's that came on the car... I'm flabbergasted

    WTF did I do?

KITTYPANCAKE came from a song about the guy who has to scrape dead animals off the road...I thought it was funny

    WTF did I do?

I did change the ball joints...I seriously doubt I bent them both so far and equal that they BOTH line up fine when installed backwards, but not forwards....

    WTF did I do?

okay, they were correct before, wrong now...are the calipers rear mounted?

    WTF did I do?

Okay...trying to do a KH 4 piston swap and all the bushings. When I installed the UCA's in what I thought was the original position the ball joint wasn't even close to the spindle. When I swapped it to the other side the ball joint lines up, but it's at a crazy angle and I'm 99% sure this ISN'T...

    Ball joint socket size

I bought the $13 1+59/64" socket from SUMMIT. It was a little sloppy on my 72 Valiant, but worked fine. It would probably be perfect for 73 + up.

    Um...I'm confused

Thanks. New pitman and idler, 4 new tie rod ends and adjusters, I think they're correct...but now I've found the steering box leaks like a sieve...so now there's that, too!

    Um...I'm confused

No wheels on car yet...just kinda guessing I was counting steering turns lock to lock and dividing by 2. That put the wheel about 90 degrees off. Could I have installed the pitman arm wrong? I thought it could only go one way....

    Um...I'm confused

I trying to redo my front end. Why do I have one tie rod really extended and the other closed to make the spindles roughly straight? Getting the steering wheel straight is another subject...

    Lost my idler arm bolt

Does anyone know the size and grade bolt I need for a 72 Valiant?

    change idler arm?

1972 Valiant with slant 6. Do I need to jack up the engine to replace idler arm? It looks like the bolt will not clear oil pump otherwise

    Do UCA bushings need orientation?

I am wondering if the little notches on the upper control arm bushings need to installed in a specific manner. I can't see any reason why it should, but I thought I would check it our prior to installing them.

    K frame repaired

    K frame repaired

Okay...I was in the process of KH SBP disc change over on my 72 Valiant, and decided to redo ball joints, bushings, ect. for the sake of safety. I have found what appears to be repairs to the K frame. The tab for the idler arm looks as if it was broken and welded. It seems strong enough, but I'm...

change steering from power to manual?

Intuition tells me that manual steering would have less chance of failure. What would need to be changed to switch from power to manual? Is my thought process completely screwed up here?

    LCA strut removal

I'm trying to download the manual now...had it before, but lost it in a computer crash...anyway, I removed the rear nut no problem. The front nut was very hard to turn. I held the strut with a pipe wrench. I was able to unscrew it until the lead end of the nut was flush with the end of the rod...

    LCA strut removal

Is there a trick to get these out? If so, what is it? I'm having what sems to be a disproportionally hard time...

    Should I or shouldn't I?

I am not familiar with "rolling a bushing"...could someone please explain?

Where to buy UCA, LCA and strut bushings?

I think everyone has convinced me to do all the UCA, LCA and strut bushings...so where/who has the best quality/price ratio?
