    fuel problem?

If the needle on the guage was bouncing around, it can only mean 1 thing; there is some air in the fuel line. This can happen if you ran out of gas or on a new installation. As in your case, it cures itself. Happened to me.

I'm puzzled. How could you have the air-bleeds in the wrong spot?

    Fuel + Headers + Wooof

In desperation, I went back to the basics and checked the timing again. Then it dawned on me to check what bushing I had in the MSD distributor, and low and behold, it was the red one (28*). My initial timing was only 12*. Changed out to the black bushing (18*) and put in 20* initial. No...

    Fuel + Headers + Wooof

Is this normal? I drive back to the pits and shut the engine off and a few seconds later I hear wooof - fuel igniting in the headers/collectors. It did this occasionally with my old cam, a hydraulic .501, and it's doing it with the new cam, a solid Crane 240/250@ .050 with 540/560 lift. LSA...

    STUPID QUESTION!!!!

Without a doubt, running lean causes heat. Fuel cools the combustion temperatures by diluting the air intake charge.

    Holley Carb/squirters+jets ?

Changed the squirters to a 36 primary and 40 secondary and the off idle stumble was cured. The plugs still read rich though. Gap is .045 Total timing is 38, all in by 2400 rpm. Any suggestions?

    Holley Carb/squirters+jets ?

Could someone explain to me when it's appropriate to mess with the squirter size, and when it's appropriate to mess with the jets? I'm somewhat confused as to their specific functions. Currently, I have a 750 Holley (flows 930) which has a 42 primary squirter and a 37 secondary (mechanical)...
