Anyone else using MegaSquirt on a LA motor?

Agreed. I have a Holley Terminator EFI/distributorless setup on my 408, a Ford EDIS distributorless setup on my 440, and soon will have a Megasquirt EFI/distributorless system on another 440. To heck with the old days of tinkering with advance curves and turning distributors. Just a few simple...

    Magnum Head Cracks

Not sure on question 1, but I did the exact same thing as what you propose in question 2. I put 5.2 Magnum heads on a '74 360. I think it is a worthwhile swap because you get the better exhaust ports along with the closed combustion chambers, which raises static compression. Remember to get...

LOOK!!! What not to give your son at 17

I'll second that. My first car was a '69 Super Bee 440/727 and I've still got it. You've got to understand and respect the car. You've also got to know the limitations of the car and the limitations of your driving ability.

What oil type to put back in

Although I think your question is a fairly pointless one, here are some threads you need to read through. The first is 2 pages worth of what everybody uses. The other 2 are about zinc content. The reason I think this is a pointless question is because out of 10 people who respond, you'll...

    318 running on water?

I think you're a little confused. Hydrogen does not turn in to gasoline. There are 2 different kits you can get; a water injection kit and a methanol injection kit. Water injection is used to cool down the combustion chamber, therefore decreasing the chance of detonation so you can run a higher...

    318 running on water?

I believe the methanol injection kit you are seeing is the kit that is supplementary to a gasoline system. It's not to make your engine run on pure methanol, which would be very cost inefficient. I'm not going to say it can't be done, but running a 318 on hydrogen would be nearly impossible...

    buying built 318

I don't know if I'd say a B&M 727 can handle "unlimited" horsepower. The "full race" cam bit is pretty funny too. By "W" heads do you mean something along the lines of W2, W5, W8?

    flex fuel?

I doubt it. The jets would probably be way too big. You would be running ridiculously rich, if it would even run at all.
  16. wish4hemi

    flex fuel?

Plenty of people have converted carb engines to run on E85. I'm sure a Google search would turn up a ton of results. Someone (Quickfuel maybe) even makes a conversion carb for E85. Or you can convert your own carb. I'm not sure on the details, but I know it takes bigger jets and everything in...

    ported heads

Not sure what the question is? Maybe you could type out a couple of complete sentences? It would make your questions easier to answer. I see "out of the box power" so I guess you're asking how much power OOTB Eddy's can make? If you are building a small block, Hughes Engines says their...

Magnum heads on an LA enigine

Hundreds, if not thousands of people have done this swap. I did it last summer on my '73 360. There is info all over this forum and all over the web about it. They are a little better in that they have closed chambers and the exhaust port flows much better than the old LA heads. The closed...

    boosters

I think this is one of those questions where there is no "best". Annular boosters are supposed to give you a little better throttle response due to the finer atomization of the fuel coming out of the booster. I have an 850 annular Speed Demon on my 440 and it runs about the same with that carb...

    Edelbrock rpm head question

There really isn't any other choice for an aluminum head in the price range of Edelbrocks. Indy aluminums are quite a bit more I think and RHS heads could probably compete but they are cast iron (extra weight). I'm looking to get some aluminum heads for my 340, and pretty much all I can find in...

    408 Stroker with 6pak

$6,000 isn't going to go very far if you want a 6 pak. A good short block will be 2,800 and heads will be around 1,400. The 6 pak setup could run about 1,800. That right there is 6,000 without a cam/intake/carb and nothing done to the trans/rearend. There are a ton of 408 builds around here and...

273 motor What kind of horsepower??

Why not do something simple ike a 275 hp D/Stock 273? That would be a lightweight, heavy hitter. And all the 350 Chevy guys will get a big suprise when they get whipped by a little 273. Very streetable and very easy to build. Here's a recent thread on the D/Stock...

    408 SB with 318 Heads?

It will probably run like a 318. Heads are where the power is and they are a really bad place to not spend money. I would build the engine the other way around. Start with an old 318, put on a good top end (RHS and maybe an RPM intake), then when you have the money you can build a 408 bottom end.

    Motor Casting "Family Code"

    LA is a term used for these engines: '64-'69 273 '67-later 318 '68-'73 340 '71-later 360 There is also the B series (350,361,'61-up 383,400) and the RB series ('59-'60 383,413,426,440).
