My console stands were still in the original floor piece when I Bought it, so that helped me. I also have an extra entire shifter set up...

    With manual trans I would go Holley double pumper. Maybe compression test and hook an air/fuel ratio gauge up see whats going on. Lastly go new carb not some old unknown carb.

    My only concern with using strings would be if the strings stretch, changing the length depending on how hard you pull. If stretching isn't an issue I guess that would work.
