I'm getting my rear axles drilled for 4.5" bolt pattern and doing the '73-up disc front disc conversion. Anyone know if 15x7 wheels w/4" backspace will fit with little or no mods? I've searched wheel/tire threads but didn't see anything specifically for 65 Cuda/Valiant. Cragar has a new wheel called Eliminator but 15x7 is the smallest size they make. I could also use any imput on tire size. Thanks.

I don't have a 65 Cuda, but the 15X7 Cragar Smoothies 313 (4.125 backspace) fit with no problems on my 73 Dart Swinger with 225/60/15 tires.

I have 255/60/15,s on the back of my 66 Dart,14,s on front.I put air shocks on my car til I can afford new springs. Here,s a pic.

I have 15X7 Torque Thrusts 3 3/4bs w/235/60/15's on the back of my 64 Dart. No problems. I've had 255/60/15's on 4 1/4bs rims before. They rubbed occasionally, most up inside the quarter panel...Also using super stock springs on the high setting..

BobsDart - I like that stance and the Torq Thrusts really set off. Great looking car.

Your Dart looks great with those wheels. Thanks everybody for jumping in, keep 'em coming please, I still can't tell if 15x7 w/4" backspace will work on the front of my 65 Cuda.

I don't think the rim size would be a problem on the front or back. But the choice of tire size could be a problem on the front.

I have 205/60/15" all around on my 1965 Barracuda. The wheels are 15x7 with 4.25 backspace. The car is at stock ride height front and rear.

i'm not sure about your 15x7 wheel but...i'm running a 14x8 with 4" b/s in the rear with a 245/60/14 tire and i have clearance problems. mainly the tire is too wide. if i had another half inch of backspace it would not be a problem but as is, i had to put some air shocks in and jack up the back end to get clearance. trimming the wheelwell lip would probably help but i can't bring myself to do it just yet.

Thanks for all the responses everyone. Looks like I'm good to go as long as tires aren't too big. DonC your 65 looks awesome, the cream color is nice. Glad to hear your ride height didn't change, that's the look I'm after. If you have a photo of your car from the side view, I would like to see it. I'm ready to be done with the 13"ers.

Here's a couple more pictures. I went from 13" to 15" wheels after doing a disc brake conversion. It's hard to tell from the side view picture, but the car does sit slightly higher in the rear. I really like the look of BobsDart. Torque Thrusts look awesome on that car.

Thanks for posting additional pics. Now I have a good idea how a 65 Cuda will look with 15's. Now all I have to do is have the rear axles redrilled, get all the parts for the front disc swap, and buy the wheels and tires, right-hand thread studs, and.....like someone said, if it was easy, everyone would have a mopar.

I have 15x7 with 4 1/4 BS 225/50 15, Has 73 up front end on 1966 cuda with no problems. Also have 1966 Valiant stock front end KH disks with 15X7 with 4 1/2 BS 225/50 15 tires also no problems.

Goldfish65,
An added note for the front, I have 15X6 w/ 3 3/8 bs w/205/65/15's

Bob

thanks for all the compliments......

If you're willing to play with the backspacing a bit, you can certainly get 15 or 16s to fit, depending on how thick you want the sidewall to be. I went through a progression of wheels on my car, from the stock 13/185s, 215/60/14s, and finally to 245/45/17s, which required some monkey'ing with the backspacing on my rear.

I chose 17s only because the wheels were cheap, and there is a greater selection of tires available. If I had my choice, I think 16s would be the best compromise between aesthetics and handling, and avoids the rubber band look. Its not for some folks ;)

and a little small but you can see it from the rear

hope that helps.

Hey, thanks for the tips. The Lancer is very cool. And it's good to see the Slant 6 Club is going strong, it's been around forever.

I'd have to agree- 17" is about as far as I'd go before the car starts looking goofy. I've got a set of 16" Lincoln LSC rims (center register openned 1/16" to fit proper) with 225/55 Goodyears Eagle GTs' for the Valiant. Painted dark argent silver they won't look too "Tippy-toed" on baloney-wrap rubber.

Any pics? It's cool when people do something out of the ordinary, something no one else is doing. I'm afraid anything too distinctive won't look right on my car. Thanks for your advice.

I had 245/60/15's on the back of my old Valiant. I purchased new leaf springs from ESPO, arched 2" over stock and installed new KYB shocks. The rims were 15x8 with a 4.875" backspace. Fit fine, small amount of clearance by the lip, about 1/4" to the springs. No issues unless I had two 200lb dudes in the back and only on sharp corners. Before the springs they rubbed, but the old springs were shot and were not supporting the car.

Thanks everybody, I'm thinking 14x6 is the way to go, big enough and no clearance issues with the right tire.
