Picked up another toy, for free. a 1968 440. It has been bored over .030, 902 heads with bigger valves and Comp cams 1.5 rockers. As well as a torker 2 intake and cam. My question is in regards to the pistons. They are flap tops and the only part number I can find is 1730. I've googled it and can't find any specs. I do know the compression heighth measures out to 2.021 roughly. But I'd like to know the factory spec to decide if I want to stay with them or ditch em. So has anyone heard of these before?

Old Clevite part I believe 224-1730 030

224-1730TC173084.320109.709.5:1, 8.8:11.9703.591.09417-.0015.750" up from skirt bottom

Does it run? Complete motor?

Not any more. Took it apart. It is complete. It sat for about 15 years without being turned over so I'm rebuilding it

It's funny though, did you look at the specs? I bet you could use them. They are really close. lol

Yeah, I did notice that lol . Maybe the guy got cheap, heck i don't know.

Pistons are cheap ish. Get some new flat tops and be done with it. Unless it's a budget build.
