1962 Valiant Signet 200

No, the (round) reversing lamps on the '62 Valiant are not the same as the (arrow-shaped) park/front turn lamps.

The round '62 Valiant reversing lamps also aren't the same as the round park/turn lights on the '61-'62 Lancer + '63-'64 Dart.

The '62 Valiant reversing lamps are similar in whole (lens + housing) or part (lens only) to the reversing lamps on a fair bunch of other A- and B-body Mopars. '63 Dart wagons used the same glass lens, for example, and '67 Barracudas used a complete assembly that's almost or entirely the same as the '62 Valiant.

My understanding is gauge faces are aluminum, is this true?

Yes, each individual gauge face is made of stamped aluminum. The instrument cluster faceplate is plastic.

Are the white knobs just plastic?

Yes. The radio knobs should match them; those chrome ones don't belong.

Horn ring appears to be broken.

'62-'66 Dart-Valiant-Lancer-Barracuda. The full-round horn ring available on fancier '65-'66 Darts fits correctly, too.

My guess is the remote speaker control under the dash is aftermarket.

Correct.

The radio knobs should match them; those chrome ones don't belong.
I was thinking that. Also thinking they are not easy to find.
Overall, it appears it doesn't need much to be 100%, but I can live with chrome radio knobs.

No, not the inner fenders or hood line.
It's just a 60 or 61 has a different K frame and steering box.
Lower control arms and steering linkage is different.
I meant the whole 60-62 A Body is the smallest engine compartment.
You can bolt a 62 k frame into a 60-61.
Column is different. Not sure about the firewall around the column.
60-61 don't have the common firewall wire disconnect.

it’s incredible just how many differences there are between the 60/61 cars and the 62’s.
ive just finished a 61 after owning a 62 for almost 30 years…..I was gobsmacked.

In relation to the original post, that’s a great car to restore. The side profile of the two door models is great.

Amazing all the differences simply from the Valiant and The Lancer !!!!

I pulled the buildsheet out of the back seat, floors are excellent.

I know what was standard on the Signet 200, buckets, blacked out grill and headlight surrounds, different trim on the front/rear, different emblems, hardtop, etc.

I'm not sure whether the two-tone paint is correct, especially on the top.

327 - Acc. Grp. #7.
Acc. Grp. #8 has everything #7 has but includes a radio. This has the correct radio with the white buttons, white large knobs, but incorrect chrome knobs. Hmm.

343 Trans - pushbutton auto, is that a torqueflite?

532 axle ratio?

652 - I believe that is an ordered car.

502 - I believe it decodes to an aluminum 6 cylinder, but it is not aluminum.
The car has been in the same spot for decades, minimum 30 years, and looks untouched except for a crappy repaint to the exterior only, no jambs or under hood.
I'm not saying it didn't have the engine replaced, just that it appears to have never been messed with.

I'm getting the fender tag figured out, except for a few things.
Any input/knowledge is appreciated.

A7 = 327 on the buildsheet

C3 = 443

N2 = 432 or 492

T2 = 432 or 492

Z appears to have a W under it?
Doesn't look like a sideways line stamp deal.

BDY 142 = Valiant, Signet, 1962 (it's not a Plymouth, it's own line, who knew? I think I knew this, at some point in the past)

TRM 581 = I know it's blue, buckets, just not sure exactly what it means.

PNT DD1D = I know it is VALIANT BLUE METALLIC, is the extra D upper door frame paint, or buffed, or two tone?

Pnt DD1D looks like D = Luminous Blue, 1st digit roof, 2nd digit body, 3rd digit 1= monotone, 4th digit ?? door frame or trim ?? see last pic

I found a 62 paint chart, apparently Sapphire, Medium, Luminous, and Valiant Blue Metallic are one in the same.

I found an original paint 62 Plymouth in this blue and it is striking, unlike the blue they sprayed over this car.

Good news is must have had poor prep as it is flaking off.

My conclusion, for anyone who gives a darn, is the white roof and white between the front trim was added when they applied that sweet respray.

My logic is pasted below, but I would also add my guess is the Valiant Color Sweep would match the interior, as in the period pic below, and possibly many people add a color sweep just because.

I noticed the Valiant Color Sweep is only available on Valiant 200 Only. My thought process was since there was a 62 Valiant 200 as well as a 62 Signet 200, it was only available on the V-200, but the period pic I found blows that out of the water.

PDBlue Roof & Body Paint
ND
T1Mono Tone Paint Style = the 1 In the STYLE OR CONV. TOP section of the BS
DD = Upper Door Frame or Moulding Insert Paint
Either way, it is the same as the primary Mono Tone paint color of D
Plus, 284 (most likely a 4 would be on the BS) is VALIANT COLOR SWEEP, VALIANT 200 ONLY, is that V-200 and Signet 200?
