I am looking to buy a complete 7 1/4 to fit my 1964 Dodge Dart GT. I want one from someone who replaced with a good limited slip, or ?, and rear end was working well without noise when taken out. ( oh, by the way, does anyone know what year models are compatible ? )THANKS, Rick

Rick, I replaced my 69 Barracuda rear with a larger one. I live in South Texas. The 7 1/4 rear I removed only had 56K original miles on it and it ran silently before removal. You can have it for $75 if you pick it up. I had gone through the brakes when I got the car (just as a precaution). It's been sitting for about 8 months now (but well protected).

Shoot me a PM if you are interested.......

Is that supposed to be track width? Because it doesn't match ANY of the actual measurements from the rear axles. Not for A-body's, not for E-body's, and definitely not B-bodies (there are more than 3 different widths for that date range).

A-body 8 3/4's are 52.625" flange to flange, and are 57.125" drum to drum. The 7.25's are supposed to be the same width as the 8 3/4's, but I found that the BBP 7.25" rear that came out of my '74 Duster was a little more than an inch narrower, about 51.5" flange to flange and about 56" drum to drum. Enough to throw off my measurements for my rear rims, but I'm maxed out on tire with a 295.

Here are some better numbers, these are flange to flange measurements...

Housing widths, flange to flange

A BODY
'66-'72= 52 5/8"

B BODY
'62-'63= 53 1/4" (And '64 Max Wedge)

'71-'74= 57 7/8"
'71-'73 wagon= 59 7/16"

C BODY
'65-'69= 56 3/4"
'70-'71= 57 7/8" (Chrysler & Fury)
'70-'74= 59 7/16" (and '69 wagon)

IMPERIAL
'65-'66= 57"
'67-'69= 57 3/8"
'70-'71= 54 3/4"
'72-'73= 59 5/8"

This was info on hotrodreference.com that I pasted. I was wondering about a lot of the inside patterns such as perch placement. Thanks , 72bluNblu for your input. I guess I am back to rebuilding what I have, or, at least trying...having problems with pressing the bearing on to the right spot. maybe i was sold the wrong spacer ?

I have a complete 7 1/4 rear- U bolts, E brakes cables, etc- out of my 65 Signet with only 45000 miles- a Arizona desert car- But- I am in Maryland-

Rick, I just purchased a 64 Dart Convertible, 273, auto! I plan on replacing the rear with an 8 3/4, depending on how much of a hurry your in it will be available soon!

line 5 should read 8 1/4 A body. Any "A" rear will fit, as well as a Ford 9 out of a Maverick with a little prying of the springs to fit over the Mopar springs. Going from a 7 1/4 to other rear will require you to alter your driveshaft and you got a B/T so be awares. Youll need to lop about 2 inches off your U joint end and have it rewelded and balanced. a 7.25 SG will do nicely if you can find one. Its a bolt in. The Later 7 1/4 Dakota rear is different.
