I have a 1965 barracuda 273 v8 changed plugs newly rebuilt carb and new coil car idles great but continues to stall when Iaccelerate. Any help?
did somebody forget a check ball in the accelerator circuit? With engine off, air cleaner lid and filter removed, look down the primaries, and work the throttle by hand. You should see a strong, prompt squirt when you work the throttle. Any less than that, and your problem lies in the accelerator circuit.I have a 1965 barracuda 273 v8 changed plugs newly rebuilt carb and new coil car idles great but continues to stall when Iaccelerate. Thanks RC69. Will do!!!I have a 1965 barracuda 273 v8 changed plugs newly rebuilt carb and new coil car idles great but continues to stall when Iaccelerate. Any help?
Thank you pishta will change filter.fuel filter plugged? if your vacuum advance in the distributor is not functioning or the plate is loose, it could play havoc on acceleration. Yeah, pump shot should be a strong stream right off idle. A big vacuum leak can cause a high idle and a lack of acceleration.
Thanks again pishta!!I replaced the sender in my car 2 days ago and the sock was gone, without a trace after 52 years. So was the wire wrap in the rheostat. It was picking up everything in that cruddy tank and sending it packing right into the fuel filter.
Thanks moped. Checked accelerator pump N.P. I'm onto timing next.Think that may be it.Have you put a timing light on it? Performance is all about the right combination of timing set up and carb tuning. There are systems to enhance performance in both the carb and distributor as the throttle is operated. Always start with getting the timing squared away because timing will affect carb. Carb will not affect timing.
I agree witht he others regarding checking the accelerator pump operation. BTW - don;t do it while it's running. Never, ever hit the trhottle hard while looking down a carb. That's a great way to lose eyebrows or worse.
hahaha. been there done that!Changed points in a ford econo line van once. I had the hot wire in a position that when the vacuum advance plate moved under acceleration the hot wire shorted out and stalled the engine. Started back up but died again under acceleration...worth a look.

Thanks RRR found hairline crack in distributor cap.Think that's the problem.Has the fuel tank been removed inspected and cleaned? It is the fuel source. Unless it is squeaky clean, your problems will persist. A 52 year old car will have a very grungy at best if it's never been out for a good cleaning.......and at worst will need replacing.
