1966 Dart GT 4 speed car VIN

I think I have a problem here. The car that I want to purchase, the VIN does not check out. It is supposed to be a an original 273 Hi Po 4 barrel car. The VIN is LP23B69134892 which is a 6CYL car, correct??? Thanks

Fifth digit (B) means 225 six cylinder ( there was also a 170 slant).
So it was not an original 273 of any sort.
So the drive train was swapped or the VIN has been changed.
Unless it's a really really excellent" survivor" type car I don't think the swap would effect the value to much.

According to what I found it comes up as a premium Dart 225 /6. If it were a 235 hp 273 the 5th digit of the vin would be H. But ive been wrong a lot lately, lol. I make no promises. Eric L

"D" is a 273. You have to get into the fender tag or the build sheet to find out whether it was a HP 273 or not.

If Hemmings published an article you can rest assured that is FULL of inaccuracies. As stated above ALL '66 273 VINs had a "D" in the fifth spot. In order to be sure of what you are looking at you really need the fender tag AND broadcast sheet to match up all of the numbers.

Thanks for all the input! Another problem I have with this, is what the difference in the drive train might be, it does have 10 inch drums, but it has a 7 1/4" rear also..

7 1/4" was the standard rear end, the 8 3/4" would've been an option that would need to be purchased! 10" brakes would have also been an option on a slant 6 car, 9" wouldve been standard!
