Hello everyone,

We are working to replace the floor pan in our 1966 dodge dart. We discovered a hole had been cut in trans tunnel (see pic). Initially I assumed this was cut to facilitate a repair but that didn't seem right based on location. Possible this is from factory? Likely repair either way but wanted to see what you all thought/knew.

Thank you.

That looks to be the hole where floor shift linkage for an automatic console set up goes.

Hole for mechanichal floor shift linkage? '66 would have been the first year for mechanical console linkage after the cable-shift consoles of '65 and earlier.

I don't see the console brackets on your tunnel, though.

Floor shift linkage an boot x2.
X 3. To the OP, look around on top of the hump and you may find where a floor shifter bracket was welded or screwed to the floor to make the car a floor shift, console automatic at some point in the cars life. If it were mine, I would cut a piece of sheet metal to overlap the hole and use some short sheet metal screws to hold it in place using the existing screw holes around the cut out hole. Add seam sealer and it will be good to go.

Looks like the mounting brackets for the center console have been romoved. But that is the floor shift automatic hole. This is my 66
