Pulled the rear windshield out of my 67 Dart. As I worked thru the process of removing the glass and gasket, I found what appears to be some sort of tape/cloth that is staked/stapled into the windshield fence area on the body. Any idea what this was for and is it needed when I install a new gasket? Also, if it's not needed, what's the best way to remove the stakes/staples?

Bye the way, it is a real pain in the rear to clean out the fence area for the windshield. I just did the front, ugh!

It was a vinyl roof car, that would make sense. I won't be installing a vinyl on the roof, going to leave it a hardtop instead. Is it ok to remove those stakes or should I leave them in when I have a new gasket installed? I would think its best to pull them and seal them up. Still not sure of the best way to remove them.....

I don't know if I would remove the staples. Rotten vynil should come away leaving them. Rust killer and paint. A little butyl sealant might go there too as gasket is installed.

If you plan on putting the stainless drip molding trim back on it may be too loose, there are different part numbers for the vinyl roof trim and non vinyl trim...

So, basically, I need to find chrome moulding for a hardtop and use that in place of what I have...
Well they are both hardtops, just one has a vinyl top and one doesn't. When you removed the drip rail trim was there remnants of the vinyl top under it? Or have you done that? Most low line Swingers came without drip rail molding...

The only remnants are what is shown in the picture. It looks like something other than vinyl. Sort of like a fiber cloth of some sort, it's stiff as well.

Misread your message. When I bought the car, it had the chrome moulding on it, but the vinyl top was gone.

Why does a 67 dart have trim clips? Didn't they all have the plastic trim that goes into the gasket, and fails?

And many folks convert them to stainless trim. So was this converted already?

I was wondering that myself. This car had the front windshield with the plastic trim that inserts into the gasket. The rear windshield had chrome trim moulding on it. Unclear if it came from the factory that way or someone already swapped out the rear trim moulding at one time. The manual is less than clear on this as well. I have seen a few images of other 67 darts that have the chrome trim on the rear which makes me think it was OEM.

Man, I really gotta read things more slowly. Your question above refers to the stainless drip moulding, not the chrome trim that goes around the rear windshield. So is it the drip moulding P/N's that are different for the hardtop vs. vinyl top or are there different chrome trim moulding P/N's for the rear windshield as well?

Yes, the drip rail trim is what is different. On a 67 the windshield trim is actually plastic with a tin insert and fits into the windshield rubber gasket. Most people just use 68-up clips and change the gasket to 68-up so the stainless molding can be used...

I could pay closer attention also. Saw the clips for reveal moulding like God and everyone else but I ignored the year model stated. DOH!
With reveal moulding installed without vynil top, the remnants of vynil should be removed and those clips placed tight against the body. Otherwise there will be a small gap between body and moulding.

I will be replacing the clips for the moulding and make sure they located well to seat the moulding properly. Still need to located a few items before I can get this ready for install. Also need to find someone locally that can install the windshield and rear glass. Seems like there are not many people left that do that these days....at least in my area.
